Efficient unit sorting at pick stations is critical. …so… I’ll be evaluating use of this tech at ProMat. One of the areas I am looking to improve for goods to person picking is efficiently sorting the orders to a put wall after an operator has picked the item from a bin/shelf. My preferred approach is to use a mobile put wall with a lighted frame. This works but I’m always looking for improvement. (each pick station operator can fill 40-60 orders at a time) After picking an item An operator still needs to take several steps To place the item in an order consolidation bin. Costing valuable time for each pick. Last year, Mushiny unveiled a new sorting technology… …the 3D Sort Mini They recently came out with a configuration that allows one picker to pick for 200 orders. (at first I wasn’t sure about the sort mini but this new configuration has promise) The benefit for a goods-to-person system is that this increases the likelihood of the operator picking multiple items from the same SKU bin. This could make both the operator and the shelf to person system more efficient. A higher pick rate and ultimately a higher order rate. (orders per hour out your door is the name of the game) I’ll be asking the Mushiny engineers some in-depth questions at their ProMat booth - N8121 Repost if you found this useful! ?? P.S. Do you think walking time of the worker is an important metric?

Wrong data wreaks havoc in warehouses. Mobile 3D dimensioning could be the answer. My experience is an accurate item master is critical for the foundation of a fulfillment operation. The fact is that most warehouses don’t have accurate data. (I understand…it is difficult to maintain) To simplify this, I’ve been searching for easy-to-use reliable dimensioning technology. I look for 4 key features: 1. Has a mobile option to easily QC inside the warehouse. 2. Captures accurate dimensions 3. Easily integrates with other software such as a WMS 4. Captures not only dimensions, but also weights and photos. This week while at Manifest, I came across Qboid. They absolutely check off items 1, 3 and 4 And have some other solid nice to have features. Regarding accuracy, let’s be realistic… It isn’t as accurate as a Cubiscan 325. (but these two are not in the same price class either) I demoed their handheld unit and it was quite easy to use. They stated a 10mm accuracy on larger items and down to a few mm on smaller items. (I’ll need more real-world data to feel comfortable with the stated accuracy) After years of searching... I am hopeful that hand-held mobile dimensioning technology is ready to make waves. (repost to share the knowledge! ??) P.S. Do you think accurate dimensions are important for a warehouse?

Many 3PLs pick orders from pallet racking I prefer mobile shelving units with AMRs Amazon has used this technology since they acquired Kiva in 2012. It is vital to their fulfillment center operation. Since 2012 many robotics suppliers have developed similar technology… Mushiny, Geekplus, Liftians, SEER, and Quicktron to name a few. When discussing mobile shelving systems I often get asked about losing vertical storage space. (this also used to be my first question) Two key things surprisingly make the storage density similar 1. A significant amount of floor space is saved in the receiving, put away, sortation, and shipping areas 2. The mobile shelving units are stored in a more dense pattern at floor level without the need for forklift aisles. Because they are mobile, it is easy to scale up or even move to another warehouse. (a previous customer relocated an entire in one week) Mobile shelf technology recently became affordable and reliable enough for any size fulfillment operation to deploy, use and maintain. After 25 years of industrial automation, this has become my favorite technology. (repost to spread the knowledge! ??) P.S. Did you know that these systems can be leased because they are mobile?

Average ecommerce shipments are 50% full Make your own boxes and stand out from the crowd Times have changed... A few years back it cost a lot to own and operate a box making machine. Then Packsize changed the game and introduced a different pricing model. No capital outlay... Lease a machine for a low cost and pay for the corrugate used. (they didn’t exactly invent the model but they borrowed a good one ??) Let’s think about the challenges. Consumers love to shop online and have packages delivered to their doorstep. They buy practically everything from nuts and bolts to bags of pet food. Traditional fulfillment centers analyze a bunch of data and run calculations to narrow their options 5 or 6 common box sizes. That sounds like a good idea until you do the math. An 8" x 10" x 6" item inside a 10" x 12" x 8" box looks pretty full to our eyes...but... it is only 50% full ?? Managing a bunch of different boxes takes a lot of time a lof of effort, and is a losing battle. So is Box on Demand easy? It can be if done right. You can’t just put in a box making machine and reap the rewards. It is crucial to have an accurate item master. But when you get this right your 1. material costs drop 2. shipping costs plummet 3. customers love your eco-friendly approach (if you hadn’t heard, brand shaming is a thing now) I’ve seen estimates that less than 2% of fulfillment operations maintain accurate item data and use box on demand equipment. So go ahead and set yourself apart from the crowd. Repost if you found this useful! ?? P.S. Have you seen box on demand in operation?

Shipping empty boxes is costing billions Fix it with 3D cost aware cartonization software It’s common for e-commerce packages to be 40-60% empty space. We've all gotten some that are almost completely empty. …and… many carriers now charge by box size instead of weight. They call it “dim weight” With consumers expecting free shipping… the seller pays for shipping that air. Whether running your own fulfillment center or relying on a 3PL, It all boils down to having a good foundation. A foundation that is built at receiving and inbound. (arguably the most undervalued part of the warehouse) My advice? Maintain accurate information of the product received. Then reap the rewards throughout your operation. An accurate item master is crucial for: 1. Optimizing space used for inventory 2. Calculating reliable ship rates at the time of order 3. Using cost aware 3D cartonization software to minimize carrier costs Let’s face it. No one wants to overspend on freight. Innovative fulfillment business use technology that truly makes a difference. I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. I believe in shelf to person 100% So, I’ll be using it for my own fulfillment 3PL. Yep, that's right... Angela Wimsatt-Thomas and I are launching a new “mom and pop” fulfillment business. We will be transparent. Sharing the technology we use. And the processes we use. Our doors will be open to merchants, other 3PLs and industry tech companies. Why? A rising tide lifts all boats and I love this great community. We grow by sharing what we know. Our focus will be on the consumer experience from order, through fulfillment and even returns. I love the puzzle of reverse logistics which is a big part of what we will be highlighting. ShipStork.ai is coming soon. Together let's make the merchant and consumer experience a delight! Cheers! -------------------------- Eating what I cook means I don’t only concept solutions... I provide them turnkey And even use them myself. Robots don’t see the world like we do. Instead, they use cameras, lidar scanners, and AI to understand and interact with their surroundings. Cameras capture images, lidar maps environments in 3D, and AI helps recognize objects and avoid obstacles in real time. Take the Atlas robot from Boston Dynamics. Even though it’s considered an older model now, it played a key role in shaping how robots “see.” Its ability to combine these technologies set the stage for today’s advanced, adaptive robots. Atlas reminds us how important these early breakthroughs are for building the robots of the future, and that the type of work we do here at FS Studio. Our team can assist you with robotic simulation, 3D meshing and rigging work of your robot, and AI training through platforms like NVIDIA Omniverse #Robotics #ArtificialIntelligence #AIInnovation #MachineLearning #Automation #AI #LiDAR #Roboticsimulation #Omniverse https://lnkd.in/gBq53K6F

Want to try out this technology? Oneiro Technologies, Inc is announcing our new starter rental kit. The first time I saw a shelf to person system was back in 2016 at an Amazon facility. They were using a brand called Kiva which Amazon acquired. The technology was fascinating. Since then, I have had the pleasure of deploying this type of technology. It transforms SMB fulfillment operations. Honestly, nothing I have found compares to the flexibility and scalability. Which is why I have been working on a way to provide a unique experience. A fully functional fulfillment starter kit consisting of: (2) AMR robots (50) mobile shelves (48”x48”x84”) (1) glove scanner + android device Typical pick per hour rate: 50 UPH for 1 person 2,400 slot locations measuring 12”w x 24”d x 11”h (can be adjusted for different sizes) 2,000 sf of space required Rent this for 6 months instead of the typical 2+ year lease. My purpose behind this is to share something which I will use for my own warehouse. I believe you will love this as much as I do. ??
