It's Wishcycling Wednesday, and we're talking about plastic film! Plastic film is not accepted for curbside recycling. ???? This is because film plastics get stuck in the machines at the recycling center very easily, leading to facility-wide shutdowns so they can be removed. Many grocery stores and big-box retailers in our area accept stretchy plastic film for recycling, and it is often made in to composite lumber and deck boards. Pictured is a batch of plastic film that was collected by Poland Elementary School's Kids Against Pollution club during the Fall 2024 Plastic Film Challenge. In total they collected 50 pounds, all of which was brought back to a store for recycling!

Are you making a resolution to have a "greener" 2025? Give some of these a try! ?? Reduce: Check to see what you already have before buying something new, shop local and bring your own bags, try to repair items before getting rid of them. Reuse: Switch to reusable alternatives for the single use items you use the most, donate items you no longer want or need, save items that are still in good quality to use again. Recycle: Become familiar with local recycling guidelines, use drop-off locations, visit your local recycling center! Be patient with yourself and always remember - our collective small efforts can make a huge impact! ????
