"That special time of year when the whole sector pulls together while also unravelling." What a great description of 4th quarter work for #nonprofits and #fundraisers! At this point, we've all been in the trenches of the busy season for a few months and are feeling the effects. We're tired. We're stressed. We're researching early retirement and moving to the beach. (Kidding... mostly.) But hang in there! Just a little more to go until January. In the meantime, take a day off, do something fun that you enjoy.
Oh year end giving. That special time of year when the whole sector pulls together while also unravelling. Maybe its the 40% of donations that come in during December? Maybe its the end of a LONG year of overwhelm? Maybe its the 40% staff vacancy rate being acutely felt? We would argue this is also the timeframe where nonprofit staff go "there has to be a better nonprofit to be working at...." So if interviewing at a new org in 2025 is a consideration for you nonprofiteer we invite you to check out this great article written by HIver Evan Wildstein on "Nonprofit Interview Red Flags and Where to Find Them". Given your experience, what is another glaring red flag you should be watching for in the interview process?? Full article link in the comments. #redflags #interviews #nonprofitorganization #philanthropy

Interesting thoughts! And yes, just because it's on the counter doesn't mean it'll get read, just like an email can be deleted right away. But having a strong OE design is important, just like having a strong subject line for emails. Grabbing attention and getting someone to open the letter or email is the first step.
So you're looking at your direct response budget for 2025 . . . Well I was in a meeting recently where someone said --- "Direct mail is the workhorse of fundraising." Agreed. He followed it with: "Did you know - on average - a piece of direct response mail stays in a home . . . in the kitchen or on the table or wherever . . . for 17 days?" Imagine the engagement potential! Everyone in the house would walk past and see it. Over and over again. That's 17 days worth of engagement potentiality! Then this guy finished his thought --- . . . "now try to happen upon an email in your inbox from 17 days ago."
