This Pakistani built a $14M ARR company in just 2.5 years. Here’s a key lesson for everyone. Lately, I’ve been sharing stories of successful Pakistanis, and the response has been incredible—so here’s another one. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hosting?Iffi Wahla?on my podcast. His story is nothing short of inspiring: Born near Sargodha → moved to the US at 8 → family struggled → lost his job amid the post-2008 fallout → started his first company, modernised and scaled it, then successfully exited → decided he wanted to build something impactful—so 2.5 years ago, he launched a tech-enabled global hiring firm, Edge. The result? $14M ARR, 100+ employees, Nearly 2,000 jobs created, and $20M+ contributed to the Pakistani economy. Most importantly, he’s providing Pakistanis access to?dollarized income—not just any income, but salaries that rank in the?top 70-90%?of their industry. If you want to learn more about what he’s doing then you can check the podcast or his profile, but there’s a specific point here I want to highlight, which people sometimes overlook when trying to succeed. During our conversation, he gave a lesson which, time and time again I am reminded of as one of the most important lessons I have learnt even in my own life. Iffi mentioned that even his mother emphasises this. What’s the lesson? You are defined by the people around you. Yes, he worked hard. Yes, he faced setbacks. 100%. Nobody can take that hard work away from him. But, he himself mentioned that one of the luckiest things that happened to him was that even when he lost his job, he was surrounded by entrepreneurs. That meant he was exposed to the right conversations, had access to valuable insights, and could see the right path forward. So if you’re trying to start a business, learn freelancing, or break into any field—your first step should be to surround yourself with people who are already doing it. Without this, most people go in the wrong direction, struggle to understand the mindset, underestimate the speed at which things move and what the ACTUAL skills are that they need to master.
