I appreciated Benjamin Schwartz, MD, MBA post highlighting a recent survey published by JAMA that revealed a startling decline in trust in doctors and hospitals—from 70% in 2020 to just 31% in 2024. While the pandemic was the presumed culprit, what stunned me came from the free text responses, where individuals shared WHY their trust has eroded. Four key themes came from the data: 1 Financial motives outweighing patient care 2 Poor quality of care and negligence 3 The influence of external entities and agendas 4 Discrimination and bias in the healthcare system When the Collaborative commissioned its survey on Utahns’ values, we were surprised to see trust so prominent—so much so that it made the top three priorities in the #UtahModelOfCare after affordability and high quality. While I'm confident Utah would score higher on trust metrics (we’ll know when the Collaborative digs into this more next year), Utah still faces many of these same challenges. Eroding trust isn't just about vaccine hesitancy—it's about the overall relationship between healthcare providers, payers, and patients. We need to recognize these concerns and act on them if we want to rebuild trust and create a healthcare system that truly puts patients first. Unifying around the #UtahModelOfCare will help all of us get there. #Healthcare #PatientTrust #InnovationInHealthcare #UtahHealth #HealthcareTrust #OUHC https://lnkd.in/gCXV_W7C

?? This week, the Collaborative attended an inspiring event hosted by University of Utah Health’s Center for Medical Innovation (thanks Mark Paul!) and BioHive Utah's health tech hub (thanks Aimee Edwards!), showcasing "The Pitch - Patient Safety’s Next Generation", a powerful documentary on the future of patient safety. It was a privilege to hear from thought leaders in healthcare after the film, including our own John Poelman on a panel moderated by Dr. Mike Woodruff MD. Thank you to the Center for Medical Innovation - University of Utah for bringing this crucial conversation to our community! This work represents the future of health tech, innovation, and patient-centered solutions in Utah. #healthinnovation #patientsafety #healthcare #utah
