Last night our Nashville TEAM (Samantha Plauche and Melissa Fackler) leaned into our value of investing in relationships and took a break from virtual meetings to connect face-to-face with the incredible community at Connect Nashville Business Networking! The outcome? A pocket full of business cards, each representing a meaningful connection forged through genuine conversations. Every exchange lasted over 10 minutes, showing how invested we are in building authentic relationships. The iconic Nike swoosh is almost 52 years old, and the company shares the story of how this branding icon came to be. With a small window to meet production deadlines, feedback was fast, direct, and not entirely enthusiastic. Having rejected four other potential options, the Swoosh was more reluctantly settled on than it was resoundingly celebrated. Co-founder Phil Knight’s initial hesitant reaction to it is now infamous. “Well, I don’t love it. But it will grow on me.” This story reminds me of something Carlo Odicino has shared often with me - sometimes it can be both good and enough. Could Nike's team have gone back to the drawing board 5x more? Absolutely. Would the result of a thicker line or longer swoosh actually change the trajectory of their success? Likely not. But the success of their brand is more than just their swoosh - it's collective branding elements.
