The number of Yale University early applications for the Class of 2029 dropped by 14% from last year to 6,754. This decline was anticipated as Yale introduced a test-flexible policy, requiring applicants to submit standardized test scores chosen from various options. The drop was more pronounced among international applicants than domestic students. #Yale #IvyLeague #collegeadmissions #earlyaction #collegeplanning #collegebound #highschoolstudents

Selecting the right college is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. The admission process has changed dramatically since most parents applied to college, and families today are seeking to gain an edge in this increasingly competitive landscape. It’s helpful to understand the many complex factors that go into an admit/deny decision, and it’s crucial that your teens select “best fit” colleges where they can thrive. 26% of high achieving students have employed private college counselors to help steer them toward colleges and universities where they will succeed. At One-Stop we use a comprehensive approach; we work with students as young as those entering ninth grade, encouraging them to explore and build upon their best qualities well before the college application begins. It’s never too early (or too late) to start the process!

Our co-founder and president, Laurie Kopp Weingarten, Certified Educational Planner (CEP), ?shared her insights on the University of Pennsylvania’s new financial aid policy in this article by The Daily Pennsylvanian, Inc.. The increase in the income threshold for families eligible for full tuition scholarships—from $140,000 to $200,000—is a terrific step forward! #collegeplanning #financialaid #Penn #collegescholarships #IvyLeague

“Every year since 1970, rising seniors from each school at Georgetown have been invited to apply to participate on the admissions committee…” Nine students are selected across the various Georgetown undergraduate schools, and they participate in the reading and evaluation of applications. Georgetown University is the only institution we know of that allows students to weigh in on admission decisions! #collegeadmission #collegeplanning #highschoolstudents

"Middle-income Americans have borne a disproportionate share of college price increases… the net cost of a degree?has risen by from 12 to 22 percent?since 2009…compared with about 1 percent for lower-income families, federal data show. Now a handful of schools — many of them private, nonprofit institutions… are beginning to designate financial aid specifically for middle-income." #collegecosts #collegescholarships #financialaid #collegeplanning

Student athletes don’t have it easy: “Longer trips for games, extra missed classes and the effects of jet lag are heaping additional pressure on young adults trying to balance the roles of student, athlete and — in an age when they can cash in on their fame — entrepreneur.” #collegesports #collegeathletes #collegelife

Many AP subject test scores have been “recalibrated,” resulting in more students earning a 4 or 5. (Five is the highest possible score) A professor at The University of Texas at Austin states that “A substantial majority of these students fail to demonstrate the content knowledge or writing skills that we expect from a university-level history student. This reality exposes the gap between what AP courses promise and what they actually deliver.” #APtests #standardizedtesting #highschoolstudents #collegeadmissions

I was delighted to contribute to this Forbes article on committing to a college without being able to compare the cost of attendance across all institutions. If you are applying under the binding Early Decision agreement, then you are pledging to attend that college without being able to compare what other institutions would cost. That's the negative to ED; the positive is that you increase your chances of admission. But without an ED choice, don't commit until you see all your other offers and cost of attendance!
