This week has been the hardest of my life, imagining that we wouldn’t be able to provide this vital service to our clients, all unaccompanied children in our state. I am relieved that we can get back to work, and I pray the contract is renewed next month. This work is important. Our clients are important and deserve representation.

It provides guidance for education providers on supporting immigrant students and families and understanding their rights in the face of immigration enforcement. A recent federal announcement of policy changes has been circulating around social media, but it does not cancel or terminate the VAWA, U visa, and T visa programs. ?? These programs were created by Congress to help survivors who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and/or other serious crimes. ?? Congress wrote these protections into law and only Congress can change them. ?? If you or someone you know might qualify for these protections, speak with a local qualified attorney. ?? A federal judge has blocked President Trump’s executive order suspending refugee admissions, marking a critical step toward restoring the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. We appreciate the work International Refugee Assistance Project HIAS and Lutheran Community Services Northwest did to achieve this. Our nation has a long history of welcoming those seeking safety and opportunity, and while the road ahead will be challenging, this decision reaffirms our commitment to upholding those values. This victory is a testament to the countless advocates, organizations, and communities who continue to fight for refugee resettlement. #TogetherWeRise #RefugeesBelong

3/21: U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, Language Access for Individuals with Limited English Proficiency- Brief on Friday, March 21, 2025 “to examine the extent to which language barriers impact access to government services and healthcare for individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP). The investigation will explore how government agencies and recipients of federal funding provide language access, the challenges of language access, and best practices for improving language access.” “The Commission will accept written materials from the public for consideration as we prepare our report; submit to [email protected] no later than April 21, 2025.”

??JUST IN: A reported ICE memo directs agents to fast-track removal proceedings for thousands of unaccompanied children and to expedite deportations for those with final orders. Legal services are essential to ensure due process, safeguard these vulnerable children, and protect them from trafficking, exploitation, and other threats.
