We work to save the lives & promote the well-being of mothers & newborns in underserved areas of rural Nepal
关于我们
One Heart Worldwide (OHW) is a 501(c)3 organization with nearly 20 years' experience providing on-the-ground training in newborn and maternal health. Our mission is to save the lives and promote the well-being of mothers and their newborns in underserved areas of rural Nepal. Our vision is a locally-led health system providing equitable access to quality care for all mothers and newborns. Based on over 10 years of experience in the Tibetan Autonomous Region, OHW has established an effective, replicable and sustainable model to reduce preventable deaths related to pregnancy and childbirth among vulnerable populations in remote rural areas with limited access to care. Essential to the OHW model are integration of local resources, collaboration with local communities and providers, and respect for cultural norms and practices. OHW’s goal in Nepal is to improve access to quality MNH care for 250,000 pregnancies annually by the end of 2030 (? of all annual pregnancies in Nepal) with programs focusing on the more vulnerable populations of 36 underserved rural districts. Current program sites include 24 districts of Nepal.

We are thrilled to announce that Grand Challenges Canada (GCC) has awarded One Heart Worldwide (OHW) with a grant worth $950,000 CAD for 2025-26! This grant will fill immense needs in maternal and neonatal health in rural Nepal by supporting our program model, "Network of Safety" in the districts Bara, Mahottari, Kalikot, Dailekh, Siraha, Dhanusha, Humla, and Jajarkot. With GCC’s support, we at OHW will continue training medical professionals and local stakeholders, upgrading birthing centers, and implementing life-saving technologies in Nepal's rural communities. We look forward to seeing everything we accomplish with this partnership!

We're so glad to have the Every Mother Counts team in Nepal, witnessing the impact of maternal health efforts firsthand. ??
Our team just wrapped up an illuminating week in Nepal. The EMC team visited two birth centers in Karnali Province, a region with the 2nd highest maternal mortality rate in the country. At both centers, we were warmly welcomed by One Heart Worldwide's (OHW) local partners—including local government leaders, NGOs, health providers, and female community health volunteers who all work together as part of OHW’s Network of Safety model to systematically improve maternal health outcomes. Reaching these remote communities meant traversing the province's mountainous terrain with many narrow, bumpy, and often unpaved roads - highlighting the distance and journey that pregnant mothers and their providers must travel to access and deliver quality care, in a province with some of the worst maternal health outcomes in the country. At the same time, we’re witnessing firsthand how cross-sector partnerships, government investment, and dedicated individuals are essential for strengthening health systems. During the next leg of our trip, we'll head to Madhesh Province to continue learning about the challenges and opportunities to improve maternal health in the country's most densely populated province. We're so grateful for the hospitality provided by One Heart Worldwide and its many local partners and look forward to sharing more.

We had a productive discussion on Nepal’s maternal and newborn health (MNH) landscape, international development, and TCF’s continued support. We look forward to future collaborations! #MaternalHealth #GlobalPartnerships

?? USAID Funding Freeze: Impact on Nepal ???? The recent freeze on USAID funding following an executive order has raised concerns about its impact on Nepal’s development programs. USAID has been a key contributor to maternal and child health, education, gender equality, and economic initiatives in Nepal. The 90-day review process will determine the future of these programs, with potential long-term effects on various sectors.
