You may remember what it was like to be young. Being young means needing guidance, support, direction—and having grownups who have great hope and faith for your future. This month, Youth Justice Action Month, we urge you to take time to learn more about what some young people are facing. They need the same things you did, maybe just a bit more. Take a look and see how. #OneHeartProject #intervention #youth #YJAM https://lnkd.in/gGTu3wxv

One Heart Project staff are preparing for more: more volunteers, more insight, more impact. Early this week, staff gathered for a training that will carry efforts through the next year! Many thanks to our partners at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, our hosts for this training and some of our work with youth!? #OneHeartProject #Teamwork #Kansas #Nebraska

Sixth and seventh graders from Topeka’s Robinson Middle School, with the help of Youth Development Specialist Corey Fox, explore Commitment: commitment to what is right, to other people, to the truth, and to doing your best. In pursuing education, we commit ourselves to preparing ourselves for the future (what is right), to our families and fellow citizens (other people), to knowledge (the truth), and to learning all we can (doing your best). With a new school year underway, now is a great time to take on this important core value. #OneHeartProject #Commitment

Youth explore perseverance and teamwork with Youth Development Specialist Geno Vargas in Nueces County. They considered the memorable, moving story of British sprinter Derek Redmond, whose hamstring tore halfway through a 400m race in the Barcelona Olympics. Derek’s father, Jim, ran to his son’s side to help him off the track, waving officials away. Derek, however, whose Achilles tendon tore during the Seoul Olympics four years earlier, wanted to finish. Father and son decided, together, to walk to the finish line. Sometimes, we don’t win. Sometimes, we don’t even do it on our own. But with support, we can see things through to the end. #OneHeartProject #juvenilejustice #supportnetwork

Youths’ behavior matters. Just days ago, Nueces County juvenile justice leaders spoke to Corpus Christi’s ABC News affiliate about a local rise in certain high-level offenses. Those offenses include car theft, aggravated assault, and the use of firearms. Learn more about this need in the community for prevention and effective intervention. #justiceinvolvedyouth #prevention #intervention https://lnkd.in/gj_paZVG

Grief and loss may be the greatest tests of our social and emotional health. Building resilience through grief and loss calls upon skills, along with tools and practices, to handle challenges and the weight of emotions that come with them. Sometimes, navigating life successfully means building resilience through hard times. Check out Harvard Medical School’s “How to Deal with Grief” for more.? https://lnkd.in/gs-pyS2Y

People need other people. Period. Positive relationships are where moods lift, joys multiply, and lives are built and rebuilt. Consider what Tyler Prochnow, Assistant of Health Behavior at Texas A&M, has to say, and share his ideas with someone who means a lot to you! One Heart is glad to be part of helping youth in small groups form positive connections and learn to form ways of thinking and acting that benefit them throughout their lives. https://lnkd.in/ePU7dKED
