The automotive leather industry supports this and agrees that any PU or PVC alternative material used inside cars should be reevaluated so as to account for all the potential microplastic pollution #genuineleather #tellthetruth
We may not yet know if microplastics are the new asbestos, but can we afford to ignore the mounting evidence showing the prevalence of #microplastics? Over the past years scientists have found them in the blood and brain, heart and kidneys, liver and lungs, human milk, placenta, testicles and semen. With a Harvard study linking microplastics to significantly higher cardiovascular risk, and warnings from leading medics ahead of the UN Global Plastic Treaty, the stakes couldn’t be higher.?? Yet, the current #PEF for apparel and footwear overlooks more than 95% of microplastic leakage across a garment's lifecycle, using a disclaimer to fill the gap.? European consumers deserve transparency, and our planet deserves better. Let’s not sidestep these issues.? Microplastics must be more completely accounted for in the PEF for Apparel and Footwear. The upcoming review of the EU's Environmental Footprint methods is the perfect opportunity to do so. #MakeTheLabelCount urges the rejection of the current PEF for textiles until it accurately accounts for microplastic pollution.
