Pitch us your provocations for 2025!
To the moon! Nope, this post is not about BTC hitting $100k. But do you think you're good at predicting the future? Are you excited for the onslaught of 2025 trends prediction pieces that are about to get published? We're not. In fact, we're not in the predictions game, we're in the business of provocation. This is why we are assembling our members, and invited guests this Friday at noon ET (on Zoom) not to forecast the future, but to provoke it. Do you have something you want to share, a spicy take, an uncomfortable question, a controversial or unpopular point of view about AI, tech and innovation? DM me yours and if it's strong enough, we'll give you the floor to share it with our other attendees.

Kirk McDonald, the CEO of Sundial Media Group, former CEO of GroupM and Chief Business Officer at Warner Media, is an esteemed member of ON_Discourse. "ON_Discourse is a rare platform where leaders don't just engage in discussions—they challenge the very assumptions that drive their industries. For someone like me, who's spent years pushing for innovation in media and business transformation, being part of this community is electrifying. It’s not about having the answers, it’s about asking the right questions. At ON_Discourse, the conversation pushes you to rethink and reimagine everything from technology to leadership. In an age where many focus on the 'what,' this is the place to dive deep into the 'why.' I’m proud to contribute to a space where we embrace ambiguity and push the boundaries of what's possible." Kirk is a proven, purpose-driven leader who is recognized for his ability to inspire teams of all sizes to embrace change, drive business transformation and growth. He is the CEO of Sundial Media Group (SMG), a vertically integrated media, technology and experiential company that includes consumer brands Essence Ventures: ESSENCE including Girls United and Naturally Curly; AFROPUNK; ESSENCE Festival of Culture; and R29: Refinery29 including Beautycon; Somos and Unbothered. Why is everyone so romantic about bad decisions? This week Matthew Chmiel wrote a newsletter about an icebreaker we've been testing lately (including at #websummit in Portugal). What if you could prevent your next mistake? Would you do it? What is a mistake? Subscribe here to read and join the discourse: https://lnkd.in/enBsabTG

We didn't just go to #websummit. We hosted a closed-door session with 15 executives in a quiet corner of the 245 year old Academy of Sciences. The Lisbon sun cast a dusty haze around the leather bound books and ornate frescos while the discourse was sharp and occasionally disagreeable. What are these executives from Adobe, Pfizer, Visa, Bell Labs, and Qualcomm thinking about AI and digital transformation? There were agreements and (our favorite) disagreements. Our friends at Code and Theory published this recap that details 9 takeaways from the room. https://lnkd.in/gMd95Crt

Our co-founder and Executive Chairman of Code and Theory keynotes Web Summit tomorrow and has a spicy take on the current state of the Internet. Oh, and our other cofounder Toby Daniels is MC’ing the stage in case things get out of hand.
For those of you at Web Summit this year, feel free to swing by my talk about why I think the internet sucks and why we are ready for a CX transformation revolution. https://lnkd.in/eW5Z7yRD

Huge congrats to ON_Discourse member Jeff Ragovin on the acquisition of his company Semasio by Samba TV.
We sold Semasio to Samba TV today. Exit number 3 and counting for me And as my toughest and most challenging exit yet, I am in so many ways most proud of this journey. Because here’s the thing. Every business, every startup, every endeavor is a rollercoaster. Each follows a different path. But, here’s one thing I do know, you can’t truly appreciate the highest highs without working through the lowest lows. I’ve been reflecting on the last 5 years with Semasio (formerly Fyllo). I’ve grown so much as a leader, as a colleague, and as a person. Especially during my time as CEO. As I reflect on the rollercoaster, there are 3 things that stand out: 1. Challenges Fuel Growth Tough times make stronger people. I saw the Semasio team become stronger with every challenge. Overcoming obstacles head-on leads to personal and professional growth. And every obstacle we faced, our team rose to the challenge 2. To Lead is to Serve I didn’t fully understand leadership until this year. Be strong and decisive, sure. But you need empathy and vulnerability, too. As a leader, it was my job to create the conditions for the team to thrive. That’s the essence of true leadership 3. Appreciation = Motivation People go the extra mile when they feel valued. This doesn’t have to be some grand gesture. Just saying “Great job!” can fire someone up. Appreciation is the fuel to keep their fire burning ? While in our darkest times, we had almost no attrition. People believed. While curve balls were hitting us from every angle, We stayed focused and on course. Culture and trust made the company resilient in the toughest of times. — So to my team: Thank you so much for your trust, dedication, and heart. I couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved, and I’m excited to see what lies ahead?for each of you and?with Samba TV. As for me, I’m ready to explore new horizons and get my creative juices flowing to start something new. You know me, I don’t sit still for long… ? At least now, I’ll finally have time to chase more tuna!
