As we approach Thanksgiving, a time to reflect on what we’re grateful for, let’s not forget the seniors in our lives who may need extra care and attention. Thanksgiving is about coming together and sharing gratitude, and for many, it’s also a time to show appreciation through small yet meaningful acts of kindness. Whether it’s spending quality time with a parent, helping with a loved one’s care, or simply offering a comforting presence, these small gestures can mean the world. Let’s make this Thanksgiving a reminder of the importance of cherishing and caring for those who have given so much to us. At Omatochi, we believe that true gratitude is shown through action. Our holistic approach to aging in place ensures seniors feel valued and cared for in the comfort of their own homes. From in-home care to meeting emotional and social needs, we’re here to support families in creating a loving environment for their loved ones. Gratitude is best shown through action, and together, we can ensure that every senior feels valued, cared for, and loved—not just on Thanksgiving, but every day. Happy thanksgiving from your Omatochi family. Addressing Social Isolation Among Seniors: How Omatochi Is Making a Difference Did you know that social isolation is a major health risk for seniors? According to the National Institute on Aging, older adults who feel lonely or isolated are more likely to experience declining health, longer hospital stays, and even shorter lifespans. As we age, staying connected can become challenging due to physical distance, sensory issues, and a range of other factors. Many seniors find it harder to access resources and support, and without them, their independence can diminish. ? At Omatochi, we’re committed to addressing these challenges. Our Senior Wellness Fairs are one way we’re helping to bridge the gap. These events are designed to foster community engagement and provide seniors with tools to live independently. They offer tech support, Medi-Cal education, wellness tips, social activities, and more—all tailored to empower seniors to stay connected and informed. ? Social connections are essential for cognitive health and overall well-being. Research shows that social engagement can improve cognitive function, especially when seniors participate actively in their communities. That’s why Omatochi not only organizes events but also collaborates with local partners to build a comprehensive support network. By addressing the social determinants of health, we’re working to create a more connected, resilient community. ? Every senior deserves the chance to age with dignity, surrounded by supportive resources. Join us in fostering meaningful connections that enhance quality of life for our elders. Together, we’re building a healthier, more inclusive community across California. We brought our community together with another Senior Wellness Fair, but this one was even more impactful, packed with fresh insights, interactive sessions, and care for our seniors! ?? ? We kicked things off with an engaging CalAIM panel, introduced and expertly facilitated by Deka Dike, Founder of Omatochi. Deka set the stage by sharing key insights into the Medi-Cal Program and the CalAIM initiative, explaining how these initiatives are enhancing care and offering community support to elevate the well-being of seniors. ?? Our panel featured experts, each providing their unique approach to senior care: @Susan Baca from Alameda Alliance for Health outlined how her organization supports seniors through CalAIM, ensuring they receive the care they need while addressing questions about Medi-Cal eligibility and benefits. ?? Isabella Bunkers from Mom's Meals | A Purfoods Company talked about their personalized meal delivery service, explaining how they design meals tailored to seniors’ dietary needs while making them feel valued and cared for. ??? Avanina Cayetano from Omatochi shared how in-home senior care takes a holistic approach, with caregivers assisting not only with daily tasks and transportation but also acting as companions to keep seniors socially connected and engaged. ?? Ana Penalva from MedZed wrapped up by explaining how their team partners with health plans to provide personalized care for high-risk, hard-to-reach seniors. Through their Community Health Navigators and nurses, MedZed ensures that care is delivered directly to seniors' homes, reducing unnecessary healthcare utilization. ??
