Omaha Public Schools offers a variety of career choices and opportunities. Omaha Public Schools is the largest school district in the state of Nebraska serving over 54,000 students in grades K-12. Our district has 83 schools and 13 alternative programs across Douglas and Sarpy Counties. Programs include Omaha Virtual School, Special Education and English Learners. Our district is the third-largest employer in the state, with more than 7,000 full-time employees who are involved in the daily operation of our schools. Teachers, bus drivers, nutrition staff, paraprofessionals, operations and other staff are all an essential part of educating students. Our teaching staff has an average of 12 years experience and more than 63 percent hold advanced degrees. Professional development is a recognized essential part of all staff. Staff Spotlight: Harrison Elementary teacher Tara Wilcox is helping first graders gain confidence in their reading and writing skills. She helped pilot our district's structured literacy curriculum last year and is now seeing it in action. "Teaching littles is fun because they are excited to learn. When I see their light bulbs go off, we celebrate with high-fives and dance parties. Those are the moments I value most.”

Students from North High, Central High and South High earned the opportunity to participate in a competitive summer STEM research experience through Creighton University. They presented their final projects earlier this month as part of the Haddix STEM Corridor program, which connects students to STEM-related opportunities and industry experts.
