Meet Tyler, Streetlight Worker at OPPD ???? After attending line school, Tyler was drawn to OPPD for its reputation as a great company and the opportunity to work with his hands outdoors. His role as a streetlight worker allows him to combine these passions while keeping the community well-lit and safe. Every day starts with a morning meeting to plan out jobs, followed by loading trucks with the materials needed. Tyler’s work varies from troubleshooting issues solo to collaborating with crews on larger projects like replacing poles or repairing circuits. He enjoys the hands-on nature of the job, the ever-changing tasks and being able to point to something at the end of the day and say, “I fixed that.” Tyler’s advice for anyone starting in the trade, “Learn all you can on the job and listen to the guys above you—you can always learn something from them.”

In honor of #VeteransDay this week, we're proud to spotlight a few OPPD team members who have served our nation. Join us in honoring their service, sacrifice and bravery. ?????? Meet Dustin, Senior Grid Operational Technology Engineer ?? Dustin served four years as a Military Police Officer in the United States Marine Corps, deploying twice to Iraq. With a family legacy of military service, Dustin embraced the Marine Corps values of Honor, Courage and Commitment—qualities that continue to shape his perspective and work ethic. Veterans Day holds deep meaning for Dustin. He feels pride in his service but also reflects on friends who made the ultimate sacrifice. He cherishes the memories of his fellow Marines, often honoring their legacy by gathering with friends to remember the days they served together. When Dustin transitioned to OPPD, he quickly found familiarity in his security role at Fort Calhoun Station. OPPD supported him as he earned a degree in cybersecurity and advanced to his current role. In his life and at work, Dustin continues to live by the Marine Corps values that became part of him at boot camp. Dustin’s advice to other veterans? "Set your goals, step out of your comfort zone and network. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and keep a positive attitude.”

In honor of #VeteransDay this week, we're proud to spotlight a few OPPD team members who have served our nation. Join us in honoring their service, sacrifice and bravery. ?????? Meet Jacob, Senior Emergency Preparedness Specialist ?? As an Air Force member for 22 years, Jacob enjoyed how the military brings diverse groups of people together for a common goal. One of the main forces driving him to continue his service was the incredible people he met along the way and the stories they shared with him. Jacob knows transitioning from the structure of the military to civilian life can be difficult, but he appreciates how OPPD creates a great atmosphere for veterans. He believes the Air Force's core value "Service Before Self" is evident at OPPD, as employees prioritize the needs of our customers. For Jacob, Veterans Day is about giving thanks to all those who have served or are currently serving. He likes to spend the day speaking to veterans from all different military branches and showing his appreciation for their service. Jacob's advice to other veterans? "Take the first step. There are great people out there ready to add you to their team for your ability to work hard towards a common goal."

In honor of #VeteransDay, we're proud to spotlight a few OPPD team members who have served our nation. Join us in honoring their service, sacrifice and bravery. ?????? Meet Andrew, Supervisor of Corporate Security Operations ?? Growing up, Andrew always desired to be part of something bigger. After being inspired by his father, Andrew continued the family tradition by serving in the Air Force for 10 years before transitioning to the National Guard, where he has served for the last three years. During his years in the Air Force, he fully embraced the Integrity, Service and Excellence. Andrew appreciates how OPPD helped his transition from military to civilian life and the way his leadership team understands his commitment while he continues to serve part-time in the National Guard. Veterans Day means a lot to Andrew because it's a day to be honored, but also a day to honor all those veterans who came before him. This year will be his son's first Veterans Day, and he is excited to attend the parade with his family and create a new tradition with them. Andrew's advice to other veterans? "Make sure to properly translate your military skills on your resumes and ensure you network when possible."
