Like many of you across the State of Michigan and the country, we wanted more from our newly crowned "America's Team," the Detroit Lions. There’s no sugarcoating the fact that this was a devastating loss, and the letdown is still all too fresh. But, my fellow fans, let’s not lose sight of what this team has accomplished over the last 12 months since its playoff game in January 2024. When any sports team wins on the national stage and hosts home games, it fosters critical economic and social benefits for the local community. The impact extends beyond ticket sales and tourism—it influences local businesses, civic pride, and even long-term investment. The excitement surrounding the Lions’ trip to the playoffs last season incentivized many to travel to the City of Detroit for the National Football League (NFL) Draft, with millions of viewers worldwide enhancing the city's brand and reputation. Hundreds of thousands of Honolulu Blue jerseys filled the crowd that weekend, but so were fans from all 31 other teams. We often say we’re the greatest sports town in the country, and wow, did we prove it this season. The excitement and energy continued to build as we set new franchise records and benefited from even greater economic and civic gains. Running around before Saturday’s game, shops offering discounts to fans showing their pride, the number of people wearing Lions gear was unbelievable. I would venture to say new records for Nielsen ratings were set, and we had already set new records for ticket sales. Lions fans know the very high highs and the low lows—we are deeply engaged in an almost addictive journey. We have a deep emotional stake, much like the real-life successes and challenges our city has faced. But most of all, the rawness of our emotions exists because, as Detroiters, we are passionate, gritty, and deeply invested in our identity—one that is mirrored in this rebuilt Lions team. They have fostered civic unity and local pride, bringing us together, reducing divisions, and creating a shared sense of belonging. On behalf of myself, the Downtown Detroit Partnership board, and our team, I want to thank our friends Sheila Ford Hamp, Bill Ford, Mary Culler, Rod Wood, Dan Campbell, Allison Maki, Kelly Kozel, Emily Griffin, DARREN Johnson, Brad Michaels, and everyone involved in this incredible franchise. You made this city shine, and we are already looking forward to next season. Just like the team, we fans will keep coming back, enduring the heartbreak for the chance at the next unforgettable high.

Lit up in blue for the Detroit Lions.
True grit. Keep going Detroit! Thank you Mayor Duggan and the City of Detroit for all you have done for our great city and to all the public private partnerships along the way.
Thank you to our fearless and innovative leader Mayor Mike Duggan who led the recovery of our city through prioritizing partnership and people over politics. This year, he announced he would end his term next year and Mayor Duggan leaves Detroit with 500M in our rainy day fund, an increasing population, a balanced budget, over 40K homes demolished, crime decreasing and our spirits rising. Thank you Mayor Duggan for your service! #2024intheD
