关于我们
Now in its sixth decade of practice, Olson Kundig is a collaborative design practice led by 12 principal/owners whose work includes cultural and museum projects, exhibition design, commercial and mixed-use design (including wineries and sports facilities), private and multi-family residential, hospitality projects, places of worship, interior design, product design and landscape design. With deep roots in the Pacific Northwest, the firm and its team of over 350 work with clients around the world. The firm began its creative existence in 1966 with the architect Jim Olson, whose work at that time centered on explorations of the relationship between dwellings and the landscapes in which they inhabit. Olson started the firm based on the essential ideas that buildings can serve as a bridge between nature, culture, histories, and people, and that inspiring surroundings have a positive effect on people’s lives. Among the firm’s accolades are the 2009 National AIA Architecture Firm Award (as Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects), national and regional design awards from the American Institute of Architects, Jim Olson’s 2007 Seattle Medal of Honor and Tom Kundig’s National Design Award from the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt and his Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Books on the firm’s work include Tom Kundig: Working Title (Princeton Architectural Press, 2020); Jim Olson: Building ? Nature ? Art (Thames & Hudson, 2018); Tom Kundig: Works (Princeton Architectural Press, 2015); Jim Olson: Art and Architecture (August Editions, 2013); Tom Kundig: Houses 2 (Princeton Architectural Press, 2011); Jim Olson Houses (The Monacelli Press, 2009); and Tom Kundig: Houses (Princeton Architectural Press, originally published in 2006 and re-released in 2021).

We’re excited to share a Metropolis Magazine feature on Fourth Ward - Atlanta, a new office development in Atlanta, Georgia, led by design principals Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, Kirsten Ring Murray FAIA, and Steven Rainville, AIA, LEED AP. This 1.1 million-square-foot commercial high-rise is organized around a central thoroughfare that doubles as public civic plaza space, creating new urban connections between Old Fourth Ward Park and the rapidly revitalizing Atlanta BeltLine corridor. “Not only are you descending to this historic park, but there are locations for retail, neighborhood, and building access,” Kirsten told Metropolis. Inside, the space uses locally sourced materials to create a tactile roughness, a departure from traditional office spaces. Tom shared, “We used every opportunity to allow the core materials to serve as the finish, which lets the construction and craft shine through.” Visit link in bio to read more! https://lnkd.in/gmhuDGGW Photos by Nic Lehoux #Architecture #Design #Atlanta

We’re thrilled to share that The New York Times has featured the new Office Hut at Hawaii Residence, led by design principal Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, in their story, “Office Retreats Without Leaving the Office.” Perched on a rocky trail, the wood and steel hut bridges a landscaped hillside and small pond below, creating a garden refuge within this micro-landscape. A hand-operated kinetic screen allows the pond-facing elevation to open completely to the landscape or close against harsh weather or when not in use. “You can’t help but feel like you’re part of the landscape in this space,” Tom told The New York Times. For the 2024 Seattle Design Festival , Olson Kundig partnered with Dowbuilt, Net Your Problem LLC and Western Washington University's Polymer Materials Engineering program to bring our installation, Between Baleen, to life. Between Baleen is a fully immersive sensory installation that explores the humbling scale of ocean life, honoring the ecosystem of our local waters. The installation provides a unique opportunity to be immersed in ocean life of the Pacific Northwest, while highlighting the efforts of organizations that recycle and repurpose ocean plastics in partnership with the fishing industry. Here, a selection of photos from Between Baleen during Seattle Design Festival—stay tuned for more chances to see the installation! Project Team: Ozana Gherman and Nico Koppe, Design Leads; Jamie Slagel, AIA and Clay Anderson, Design Mentors; Dowbuilt, General Contractor; Net Your Problem LLC and Western Washington University, Collaborators.

We’re pleased to share that Red Barn Winery at Jagged Rock, led by design principal Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, has been featured in the latest issue of Architectural Record. “I always really enjoy projects that remodel or repurpose existing buildings, because I get to work in conversation with another designer and another client’s vision from the past,” Tom told Architectural Record. “In this case, the other designer is a younger version of myself, working with a younger version of my client." Today we revisit a new Bay Area home led by design principal Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, which was recently featured online by Architectural Digest. “It was designed to highlight the client’s art collection, but it's not a whole bunch of little walls,” Tom told AD. “It’s about balancing the big window views with the big wall views. The big window views also create this easy transparency between inside and outside. It’s what California is supposed to be about.” Visit link in bio to read more! https://lnkd.in/gN8Z-m4P #Architecture #Design #InteriorDesign Project Team: Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, Design Principal; Todd Matthes, Principal/ Project Manager; Charlotte Essex, AIA, CSBA, SEED, Project Architect; Alex Fritz, Associate, Project Architect; Katherine Ranieri, Project Architect. To bring Between Baleen to life for the Seattle Design Festival Festival, Olson Kundig partnered with?Net Your Problem LLC?(NYP), a group that removes and recycles end-of-life fishing industry materials to keep ocean waters clean worldwide. Nicole Baker, Founder of NYP, has donated recycled fishing materials to help Olson Kundig create this sensory installation. Our goal is that visitors will be immersed in the ocean life local to our region and understand the impact of ocean plastics on our ecosystem.
