The Ohio State University Wexner Medical visited Shanahan Middle School for their third annual careers in healthcare exploration event, with nurses and surge techs presenting four interactive stations for 6th grade students that aligned with their study of the structures and functions of living systems. Stations included CPR, pig hearts (not pictured), job skills and surgical equipment - monopolar generator, an advanced ultrasonic and advanced bipolar machines. Resource Stewardship: As the 7th largest district in the state, it is of utmost importance that we maximize investments and revenue, manage assets wisely and model fiscal responsibility and transparency. ? Learning and Organizational Development: We must foster leadership development and mastery of learning at every level—teachers and students—to achieve our vision to be the recognized leader for high performance and efficiency in education. The District is highly regarded statewide for its academic excellence. We are consistently in the top rankings of US News and World Report, our four-year graduation rate is 98.3% and we received an “A” on gap closing on the State Report Card. Our students have the ability to participate in 25 AP courses, robust elective offerings, gifted services for qualified students grades 3-12 and a comprehensive professional development program. Extracurricular programs—from athletics to the arts—are also recognized for achievement. Our district encompasses 95 square miles, seven townships, five cities and two counties. More than 21,000 students attend our schools, making our population larger than Miami University. We employ 2,500 people and operate 26 schools; 4 high schools, 5 middle schools, and 15 elementary schools. We also support OASIS, Olentangy Academy and Olentangy Preschool. In 2018, Columbus CEO magazine named Olentangy Local School District one of the Top Places to Work.

Our third professional development day earlier this month brought teachers together in six buildings. It kicked off with presentations by Curriculum and Instructional Technology teams, followed by sessions, roundtable discussions, grade-level collaboration, and learning more about the district's curricular goals. Over 250 types of sessions took place across the district, facilitated by educators, administrators, academic team members, support teams, and outside presenters. One example was the Pupil Services team, which brought together intervention specialists who work in Specialized Learning Centers to tour classrooms and discuss the physical classroom structure as well as student schedules and work systems. #FlourishHere #OneOlentangy

Olentangy transportation driver Kevin Ball is the recipient of one of the @oheducation RISE awards! Kevin received one of only two statewide awards recognizing inspirational school employees that are support/classified staff. Kevin’s nomination was submitted to the United States Department of Education (USDOE), who selected Kevin as one of their five RISE National Finalists! It is a great honor to not only be chosen as an Ohio RISE honoree, but also to be selected as a national finalist is something to be extremely proud of. Last Friday was Career Exploration Day/Experience day for 8th graders at Berlin Middle School! Olentangy:BridgED partners Robertson Construction Ohio and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center hosted stations on different career paths in construction and healthcare. Columbus State and Olentangy's Instructional Technology team presented on available courses and pathways that align with various career interests. #FlourishHere #OneOlentangy

We love staff externship days! High school counselors?spent Monday afternoon at The Superior Group?learning about careers in construction. From trades (carpenters and electricians) to design, project management and IT, there is a path for everyone in the construction field. Externships provide a unique opportunity for our staff to learn first hand about evolving career pathways (there is no industry evolving faster than construction!) and bring this information back to students. Special thank you to our Olentangy:BridgED partner Elford, Inc?for helping to coordinate this day, AND Dusty the robot who created a special welcome for our team!
