Dr. Kareem Edouard was interviewed by Axios on Black History in Children's media. They cited a report done by Children's Media Association, where Kareem also spoke on a race and ethnicity in children's media panel in early January to announce the report (You can find that report link in the news article as well!). https://lnkd.in/gGBK9Trg

As we close out Filipino American History Month, we wanted to share how we incorporated that history in Work It Out Wombats! In the episode Treeborhood Album, we learn how JunJun’s family home gets to be in the Treeborhood. After a great storm, Amado’s lolo Alejandro built the house. Dr. Darlene Marie Mortel Edouard, PhD worked with the writer, Sherri Stoner, and Pipeline Studios to make sure that the story and photo reflected the Filipino migrants workers, our Manongs, who came to the United States in the 1920s and 30s. Using photos taken of the Manongs and Filipino labor heroes Larry Itliong and Philip Vera Cruz, we crafted Lolo Alejandro to look like them. Because it matters that we include our history in our present so we can make a better future. Happy Filipino American History Month! #WombatsPBS #FilAmHistoryMonth #FAHM #RepresentationMatters #LarryItliong #PhilipVeraCruz #Manongs #FAHNS

Another fun stop motion short created by Dr. Kareem Edouard's student Derrick Banks Jr. at The ILLEST Lab!
Assistant Professor at Drexel University, Creative Producer on Work It Out Wombats!, Children's Media Advisor and Consultant at Ole Greens Group LLC
Let Black Boys just play! Have fun. Be their authentic selves! Let them COOK! Derrick Banks Jr. leads our Black Male Animation Lab by finding the vintage toy sets, designing movement sequences, shooting the animation, and editing the final protype videos. Throughout the project, participants used computational and narrative STEM tools—cameras, software, and lighting—while integrating storytelling that reflected their cultural experiences. This experience fostered both technical skills and leadership, allowing them to see themselves as STEM leaders and narrative creators. The ILLEST Lab is all about merging STEM with creative expression. #STEM #CreativeLeadership #BlackBoysInSTEM #ILLab #Animation
