Taunton's First Old Colony Habitat for Humanity House update and drawing-5 Chester Court Thanks to a land donation from Mayor Shaunna O'Connell, Old Colony's Habitat for Humanity is nearly three-quarters through the construction of their first Taunton home at 5 Chester Court, a small dead-end street adjacent to Reed & Barton. The home is 1,500-square feet with three bedrooms and 1.5 baths. In addition to the City of Taunton's donation, Bristol County Savings Bank recently provided a $50,000 grant to the construction of the home and Taunton's Affordable Housing Trust just awarded Habitat $67,000 to complete the construction. Old Colony Habitat Executive Director Kim Thomas thanked all the volunteers who were making this dream home a reality as well as a thanks to Mayor O'Connell and Bristol County Savings Bank for their generosity. Mayor O'Connell drew the winning family-the number of total applicants started at 310, which was dwindled down to 167 then to the final four, of which the Mayor chose the winner. We will let Old Colony Habitat for Humanity announce the specifics of the winning family, but the crowd was told this will be a "life-changer" for this family, who will be involved in the completion of their new home. One family secures a dream home...many more to come.
