As temperatures drop, workers face serious risks like hypothermia, frostbite, slips & falls, and more. Employers must take steps to keep workplaces safe in cold conditions. ?? Recognize Cold Stress Symptoms: ?? Hypothermia – Shivering, confusion, slow breathing, loss of consciousness. ?? Frostbite – Numbness, hard or blistered skin, possible amputation. ?? Trench Foot – Red, swollen, numb feet from prolonged exposure to wet, cold conditions. ?? Prevent Cold-Related Illnesses & Injuries: ? Wear warm layers (moisture-wicking, insulated, and waterproof). ? Keep extremities covered – gloves, hats, and insulated boots. ? Stay dry – wet clothing increases heat loss. ? Take warm-up breaks in heated areas. ? Employers should provide heaters, schedule breaks, and monitor workers for signs of cold stress. ?? Prevent Slips, Trips & Falls: ?? Walk slowly with short steps on icy surfaces. ?? Use handrails and wear slip-resistant boots. ?? Clear snow & ice from work areas and use deicers. Stay warm, stay safe, and stay prepared this winter! ?? #ColdWeatherSafety #WorkplaceSafety #okwx

?? SCAM ALERT: Beware of Fake Work-From-Home Jobs! ?? The Oklahoma Department of Labor warns job seekers about fraudulent remote job scams designed to steal your time, money and personal information. Scammers often pose as legitimate companies, offering high wages and flexible work—but they’re really out to take advantage of you. ?? Common Employment Scams to Watch For: ?? Repackaging Fraud – You’re asked to receive, repackage, and ship goods but never get paid. The company does not exist and cannot be found. ?? Fake Paychecks – You receive an overpaid check, asked to return the difference before cashing the check, then their check bounces—leaving you with nothing. ?? Recruitment Schemes – You’re promised money for recruiting others but never reimbursed for your efforts. ?? Pay-for-Training Scams – You’re charged high fees for training but never see the promised job or income. ?? Medical Billing Scams – You’re required to buy expensive equipment upfront, with a false promise of reimbursement. ?? How to Protect Yourself: ?? Verify the company – Research employers before accepting a job offer. ?? Never pay upfront – Legitimate jobs don’t require fees to start. ?? Beware of “too good to be true” offers – High pay with little effort is often a red flag. ODOL provides this information in hopes that Oklahoma workers will not be scammed out of their labor and money. If you’re searching for remote work, investigate potential employers carefully. Be cautious, informed, and share this message to keep others safe
