We're thrilled to announce that the Oklahoma Art Education Association (OAEA) has named Tori Waldron the 2024 Museum Educator of the Year. Please join us in congratulating Tori, OKCMOA's Manager of Teacher and School Programs, on this well-deserved recognition! Tori was nominated by classroom educators who participated in our teacher professional development workshops and who frequently take students on field trips—a significant honor from the teachers we serve. Tori has revived long-neglected school and teacher programs, stewarded relationships with classroom educators, and increased tour numbers—both in-person and virtual—to never-before-seen levels. The award will be presented at OAEA’s state conference. OAEA is the state affiliate of the National Art Education Association (NAEA), and NAEA’s Museum Education Division is a leading professional organization for art museum educators. Congratulations, Tori! ??

Discover how Rodin and Picasso revolutionized art by defying tradition! Register to attend the next Meade Lecture at OKCMOA: "Rodin, Picasso, Time and the Art of Unrest." ?? Register here: https://lnkd.in/eHr-wWe6 ABOUT THE LECTURE In the late 1800s and early 1900s, artists Auguste Rodin and Pablo Picasso broke with centuries of tradition that insisted on the integrity of the human body in sculpture and the Renaissance conception of painting as a window onto a world. This talk, led by Dr. Michael J. Anderson, President and CEO of OKCMOA, will consider the ways in which their resistance to single, fixed perspectives and unified forms embodied and challenged the scientific, technological, social, political, and artistic developments of their eras, paying special attention to how newly emergent concepts and experiences of time shaped their revolutionary art.

The Three Shades, by Rodin - modeled circa 1886 My wife and I took a date to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art This one is an enlarged cast of Rodin’s original. It was made to sit atop his work “The Gates of Hell”, inspired by Dante’s Inferno. It’s the same man, turned in three different directions. The strained necks are my favorite part. Sort of prophetic when you think of what device I’m using to write this very post. ?? Yes, I did just straighten my posture! Rodin’s “The Thinker” is from the Gates of Hell piece too. I like his version better than Steve Jobs’ thinker ?? Something I wish I knew about in my twenties is the ROAM and NARM programs. Where you can become a member at one art museum who participates, and that grants you access to all the other museums… There’s over 15 museums we can visit way out here in Oklahoma alone. This is one of our favorite Homeschool field trip hacks. Makes me wonder: what programs will I wish I knew about 10 years from now?
