For the first time in the U.S., American manufacturers are building components for the offshore wind industry. Subsea high-voltage cables, steel monopiles, and more are being ordered, built, and delivered to offshore wind projects now being constructed off the East Coast. Behind each new project is a network of steel suppliers, fabricators, manufacturers, engineers, welders, carpenters, and many others. Today, the U.S. offshore wind supply chain spans 39 states — from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico — and is backed by over $24 billion in investments. One step forward for Vineyard Wind 2! On Friday, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts announced its decision to procure up to 800 megawatts from our 1,200 megawatt project. ???? I am pumped! Today, Avangrid submitted bids for two transformational offshore wind projects to benefit MA, CT and RI. New England Wind 1 is a nearly shovel ready 800 MW project which already has most of its major permits, a project labor agreement with the Massachusetts Building Trades Union, a lease to help fund a world class marshalling port in Salem, and an agreement to bring a new offshore wind equipment manufacturer to New Bedford. New England Wind 2 is a 1000 MW project that will bring even more clean energy and jobs to New England. https://lnkd.in/eS32KP6b
