Last night, we had the pleasure of hosting Tristan J. Nelson, Director of Corporate Partnership Sales, and Alex Surette, Manager of Corporate Partnership Strategy from the Oklahoma City Thunder! Tristan and Alex led a very engaging and enjoyable discussion about the world of corporate partnerships and how the Thunder generate and implement impactful sponsorships. Here were a few things our students took away from the meeting: - The main goal of corporate partnerships is to identify partnership objectives, structure deals that align with a sponsor’s goals, negotiate terms, implement activation strategies, and continuously manage and evaluate partnerships to maximize effectiveness and reach. - Because players and wins are variable, fan engagement can fluctuate if it's tied too closely to individual players. The corporate partnerships team at the Thunder ensures more stable and sustained fan interest, regardless of changes in the roster or team performance. - Showing up is half of the battle! Alex and Tristan stressed the importance of trying to get internships within OU athletics, highlighting that the connections students build during their college years can significantly impact their career opportunities in the future. A huge thank you to Alex and Tristan for taking the time to come to campus and to all of the amazing SBA members in attendance for our meeting last night!
