Building on the tradition of bringing nature, art and active spaces to humanistic development,?Kaleidoscope Park?is the latest OJB-designed open space commissioned by Craig Hall. The park is the centerpiece of the larger Hall Park development in Frisco, Texas. The core themes of celebration, connectivity, and regional character are expressed in the 5.7-acre park with year-round programming for arts and culture. The design team was inspired by the site’s location in the Central Flyway for fall monarch butterfly migration. Pollinator gardens within the park and large swaths of prairie meadow in other parts of the development contribute to new habitat creation. The gardens include a wide variety of plants that draw butterflies, bees and hummingbirds, with both flowers and shrubs that bloom and attract pollinators year-round.?Read more from Mark Lamster in the?Dallas Morning News. https://lnkd.in/gVanpg8Q

Research within practice is essential to innovation. Check out this month's article in Landscape Journal that offers a variety of perspectives. Well done Allison Kaye Harvey!
Published this month in Landscape Journal, "Practice-Based Research Now" is a collective effort by myself and industry colleagues to contribute to the growing dialogue about design research in the field of landscape architecture. I've found thriving in the ecotone between practice and research to be an extremely rewarding experience. Working with this cohort on this article was a joy. I am thankful to have connected with colleagues who see how research methodologies can transform the future of practice. https://lnkd.in/eaUJNDvB The co-authors include Megan Barnes at the Landscape Architecture Foundation, who led our roundtable group, Anya Domlesky at SWA, Lisa H. at LandDesign, Eric Kramer at Reed Hilderbrand LLC Landscape Architecture, Allyson Mendenhall at Sasaki, Margaret Plumb at Design Workshop, and Rebecca Popowsky at OLIN. Congratulations and let's keep going!

Great work in Cary - the pavilions are a technical marvel and a thing of beauty. The park and the structures within it are already beloved by the community. Thanks for your fantastic contributions to a stellar team!
Downtown Cary Park is a finalist in the National Council of Structural Engineers Association’s (NCSEA) 2024 Structural Engineering Excellence Awards program. The nature-inspired park in Cary, NC, transports visitors on a winding path of outdoor features and indoor spaces—all of which are blended into the surrounding nature. Agreed -- collaboration is at the heart of discovery! Mass General Brigham was out in front for sustainability measures on this headquarters project in Somerville.
"Collaborations between landscape architects, specifiers, and product manufacturers can accelerate changes that will reduce our collective impacts" — Amy Syverson-Shaffer, ASLA, and Sasha Anemone, ASLA. ASLA has released Navigating Environmental Product Data: A Guide for Landscape Architects, Specifiers, and Industry Partners The guide was developed by members of the ASLA Biodiversity and Climate Action Committee: Amy Syverson-Shaffer, ASLA, Landscape Forms Sasha Anemone, ASLA, SALT Landscape Architects The products and materials that landscape architects specify for their projects play a significant role in the overall global warming potential (GWP) of a project. They can also impact biodiversity, air and water quality. The guide outlines how environmental product declarations (EPDs) and other environmental reporting can be used to understand the environmental impacts of landscape materials and products and make decisions to reduce those impacts. Landscape is at the heart of the University's transformative plans for the next century. We are thrilled to be their partner as stewards of the campus fabric and connecting people to nature and each other. This is the true heart of discovery.
Take a sneak peek at the future of UH: In the coming months and years, these construction projects will begin on our campus. ????? In 2027, UH will turn 100 years old. As part of our centennial, we’re making upgrades and enhancements across campus. University Blvd. will be reworked to become more pedestrian friendly, and Farish Hall will be demolished to make way for Centennial Plaza. The plaza will feature a large green space for events and activities, upgrading one of our campus’ most iconic spaces. The College of Education’s new home will be in McElhinney Hall, which is currently undergoing a major renovation and is slated to reopen in summer 2025. Wilhelmina’s Grove will also be beautified and enhanced for outdoor events. In addition to these plans for our centennial, this spring the ground will be broken on the new Innovation Hub — a 70,000-square-foot building in the heart of campus that will be home to everything that inspires innovation — a makerspace, the Energy Transition Institute, the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship and more. The Hobby School of Public Affairs will have its own 42,000-square-foot building scheduled to be completed in 2027. It will provide cutting-edge teaching and collaborative environments, enhancing the academic experience. Recognizing the needs of many other buildings, we had allocated $100 million to retrofit and upgrade many facilities at the core of our campus. That includes work on Science and Research 1, McElhinney Hall and Agnes Arnold Hall. Last year, we added $38 million to ensure that the needs of Agnes Arnold Hall were met, and work is ongoing. Other upcoming projects include: ? A new freshman residence hall that will add 1,000 beds to campus ? The Medical Research Building next to the Fertitta College of Medicine ? A new 71,000-square-foot dining commons near Cougar Village I and II ? Upgraded safety and security project that will revamp lighting across campus, and add more security cameras and emergency boxes

Great to see a guide that talks about the big issues we are grappling with as a profession and how we can create positive change. Hope to see you in D.C.!
Attending the #ASLA2024 Conference in Washington, D.C.? If so, use this conversation guide with EXPO exhibitors. “With this guide in hand, landscape architects can ask industry partners the right questions and move the conversation forward. Getting on the same page will lead to deeper collaboration on how to reduce our collective impacts and improve benefits,” said ASLA CEO Torey Carter-Conneen. “The guide enables us to expand the dialogue on embodied carbon in materials, the sustainable use of products in landscapes, and supporting equity goals in communities,” said April Philips, FASLA, Chair, ASLA Climate Action Committee.
