This weekend, we hosted our inaugural STEMFest at Nova Southeastern University in partnership with OIC of America! Fittingly hosted during Black History Month, this event not only celebrated the progress our organization has made but also honors the legacy of our founder, Rev. Dr. Leon H. Founded in 1964 by the Late Reverend Dr. Leon Howard Sullivan, Opportunities Industrialization Centers of America, Inc. (OICA) is a national non-profit network of employment and training programs bound together by a common commitment, to help the disadvantaged realize their true potential. OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL) is a community-based workforce development, education and training organization that prepares our youth and adult participants to lead responsible & productive lives with holistic high-quality and comprehensive life skills development, fundamental education, superior skills-based training and employment readiness services. We assist our clients and students with overcoming the barriers they face at some of the most crucial transition points in their lives: young adults facing important crossroads, and adults challenged by unemployment, re-employment, underemployment and/or release from incarceration. Participants learn leadership & coping skills, earn relevant vocational credentials and also learn how to be capable, reliable and self-sufficient employees with strong work ethics. Since 2001, OIC of South Florida has placed over 6,000 community residents into high-demand occupations and serves over 4,500 youth annually.
