Reducing the impact of the built environment on the planet so that humanity can live in balance with nature.
关于我们
Optimism and Health. Since our founding in 2004 by Principal Deb France, these two concepts have been at the core of everything we do. Our mission is to reduce the impact of the built environment on the planet so that humanity can live in balance with nature. We believe that architecture should adapt to the complex shape and flow of contemporary life. OHP+D designs proactively for the needs of the environment and our clients through the responsible sourcing of materials, attentive listening, observation and collaboration. We seek to produce lucid work, architecture that sculpts the vision of our clients into an outcome that is more than its constituent parts.

As architects, we believe in the power of design to heal, reconnect and uplift communities. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re highlighting Albina Vision Trust and the transformative work being done to revitalize Portland’s historic Albina neighborhood - a once-thriving Black community displaced by racist urban planning. Albina One is widely regarded as the largest restorative redevelopment effort in America. The project will provide 94 affordable family housing units and I-5 highway covers aimed at reconnecting neighborhoods. This movement is a testament to the role architecture and planning play in shaping a more just and inclusive future. We’re inspired by the leadership and vision behind this effort, ensuring that the cultural and historical significance of Albina is honored in its rebirth. ?? This #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re honoring Mabel O. Wilson, a visionary architect, scholar and advocate shaping the dialogue on race and the built environment. As a professor at Columbia University and a leading researcher on African American architecture, her work challenges us to rethink history, public space and representation in design. Wilson’s contributions extend beyond architecture: she’s a curator, writer and speaker. Her research ensures that Black narratives are centered, not merely included, in architectural discourse. Join us in celebrating her impact and the power of design to tell untold and under-celebrated stories. ?? Dario Calmese #BlackArchitects #Architect #MabelWilson #DesignForChange #BlackHistoryMonth

Ramps vs Stairs. In the last several days as I've been out and about for both work and holiday, I've noticed four different sets of ramps and stairs, side by side. Y'all do know that anyone who can walk up or down a set of stairs can also walk up and down a ramp, right? I suspect that these ramps were installed as a renovation required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and I'm wondering if it ever occurs to the architects or facilities managers that one single ramp can provide access to walkers and wheelchair users alike. When we design structures, policies, and processes for disabled people, it allows the vast majority of disabled and nondisabled people to be included. Designing for nondisabled people oftentimes excludes disabled people. #DisabilityInclusion #RampsVsStairs #UniversalDesign #DesignForMarginalizedPeople [Alt Text in the photo]

As a part of Yamhill Carlton School District’s Bond Projects, we developed a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) center and gymnasium for this bustling Oregon high school. The CTE building features a state of the art STEM lab that facilitates progressive teaching methodologies to give students a competitive edge in the global job market. The gym, affectionately known as the Tiger Dome, is constantly in use for school assemblies, athletics, school performances and more. ?? Volleyball photo courtesy of Yamhill Carlton High School

When it comes to kiddos, we all want the best. That's why we enjoy our partnerships with k-12 school districts across Oregon. As part of the Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program, we provided seismic upgrades to Cooper Mountain Elementary School in the Beaverton School District. In lieu of disruptive interior improvements, we added shear walls on the exterior side of the building. This gave us the opportunity to update and modernize the siding, improve the building's thermal performance and kept the on budget and on schedule! #k12 #SeismicUpgrades #SeismicRehab #BeavertonSchoolDistrict #OregonSchools #OregonArchitecture #Architect
