As OHM Advisors marks another year of community-focused advancements, we’re proud to integrate wastewater surveillance into our toolkit for public health. Our expert and manager for the firm's Environmental Planning & Restoration work, Valerie Novaes PE, explains: ?? Wastewater surveillance involves collecting samples from sewer systems to monitor pathogens. This powerful approach enables rapid pandemic preparedness, allowing us to track new pathogens more effectively. ?? During COVID-19, this method was critical in providing data that shaped responses to coronavirus and other diseases like RSV. Val’s work with the Oakland County Health Department has built a robust model for future surveillance that will help safeguard communities. Wastewater surveillance is more than a tool—it’s a breakthrough in public health, offering data to anticipate and prevent outbreaks. ?? Interested in learning more about our Water expertise? OHM Advisors is honored to receive an ACEC Tennessee Award for our work on the Giles County Courthouse Facilities Condition Assessment! ???? The historic Giles County Courthouse, one of Tennessee’s most picturesque buildings, was showing signs of decline. Without existing floorplans and with hard-to-access areas, our team utilized advanced tools like laser scanning, 360-degree photography, and drone technology to create an accurate visual dataset, informing design solutions and preserving this landmark. This project highlights our commitment to advancing communities by leveraging cutting-edge technologies to preserve and enhance a landmark space that will benefit the county for years to come. ?? Today marks the 10th anniversary of Imagine a Day Without Water, a powerful reminder of water’s indispensable role in our daily lives and its impact on the future. ?? This day calls on us to reflect on what "our drop in the bucket" can contribute to sustainable water management and preservation. At OHM Advisors, we asked a few team members to share their thoughts on water’s vital role and their vision for the future of the water industry: ?? Valerie Novaes PE, Principal: "Water is the lifeblood of everything we do. It sustains society, enabling us not just to survive but to thrive. At OHM, we are committed to protecting this precious resource so future generations can continue achieving humanity’s greatest milestones." ?? John Deslippe, CERP PWS, Project Manager: "Water connects all living things. From prehistoric creatures to modern icons like Cleopatra and Taylor Swift, we all drink from the same source. Recognizing this timeless connection sharpens our focus on our essential water resources work." ?? Wade Rose, Field Ecologist: "Water ties us all together, yet it’s often taken for granted—until it’s no longer safe to drink, cook with, or enjoy. In 10 years, I hope combined sewer overflows are a thing of the past, and our lakes and rivers are healing from centuries of misuse." When we come together to acknowledge water’s critical role in our lives, we create a ripple effect of positive change. So, what's?your?drop in the bucket????? #ImagineADayWithoutWater #Sustainability #WaterConservation #MyDropInTheBucket
