The Ohio Alliance has released a common, standardized definition for a school-based health center! The definition will be used to promote best practices and guidelines for high quality SBHCs and advance conversations around SBHC sustainability and operations. The full definition can be found on the Ohio Alliance website here: https://ow.ly/xU1m50VmqE4 We encourage partners to use the definition in SBHC education, awareness, and implementation efforts. #healthykidslearnbetter #OhioSBHCs

Healthy Kids Learn Better
关于我们
The Ohio School-Based Health Alliance (“Ohio Alliance”) understands that healthy kids learn better. As a statewide professional organization, the Ohio Alliance advances high quality, sustainable models of health care in school settings. The Ohio Alliance is committed to improving access to quality, timely health services through school-based health care to ensure that every student is healthy and better able to learn. For 30 years, school-based health centers and partnerships in Ohio have been improving the health and education outcomes of the students that they serve. School-based health clinics and partnerships have served as a critical pathway for providing necessary health services to students with the greatest risk for poor outcomes. At a time where our children and youth are experiencing greater and more urgent health needs, the Ohio School-Based Health Alliance works to strengthen and expand access to school-based health care across the state.

What are Social Drivers of Health? SDOH is a phrase you may hear often in the school-based health space. Addressing Social Drivers of Health or SDOHs is at the heart of SBHCs. SBHCs break down transportation barriers to accessing health care and increase educational outcomes by decreasing absenteeism and increasing seat time for students! #keephealthytogether

Conducting screenings for food insecurity is one way an SBHC can identify students and families in need of nutritional support. The School-Based Health Alliance toolkit provides best practices for addressing food insecurity in a school-based setting. This National Nutrition Month let’s all make a commitment to doing our part to address food insecurity in Ohio! #foodconnectsus #nationalnutritionmonth https://ow.ly/AQpS50Vl1xX.

This week, the Ohio Alliance and our SBHC partners provided key testimony in the House Finance Committee supporting the $20M allocation to school-based health centers and additional funding for dental and vision services. We are so grateful to Sherry Shamblin of Hopewell Health Centers and Joseph Spiccia of Wickliffe City School District for advocating on behalf of SBHC partners. Ohio Association of Community Health Centers, Primary Health Solutions, Community Health & Wellness Partners, and Oral Health Ohio also joined in support of SBHCs and school-based health care services in their testimonies. Thank you to our SBHC champions statewide for the work you do every day to keep Ohio’s children healthy and ready to learn! #keephealthytogether #OhioSBHCs #healthykidslearnbetter Full testimonies can be found here: https://ow.ly/Z0hy50VhCef

We applaud Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine for highlighting the impact of school-based health centers and the importance of children’s vision and dental services in his State of the State address. We were thrilled to see the impact of Ohio Alliance partners Xenia Community Schools and Dayton Children's Hospital's school-based health center spotlighted and their work to connect a 5th grader with hearing difficulties to much needed care shared. We are so proud of these partners and the quality care they provide to keep students healthy and ready to learn! #keephealthytogether #OhioSBHCs
