Dr. Penelope Ismay, associate professor of history at Boston College, spoke to the George Washington Forum. Her presentation titled “An Episode in the History of Greed” examined the treatment of child workers in Great Britain’s cotton mills and the ineffectiveness of regulation due to the special interests of the mill owners serving in Parliament.

Students at Ohio University gain hands-on reseach experience beyond the classroom. In Uses and Methods of Oral History, taught by Dr. Alex Lovelace, students put skills they learn into practice by interviewing retired faculty members, administrators, and community members associated with Ohio University. This course is part of a larger initiative to document how Ohio University and the surrounding region has changed in the decades following World War II with the intent of preserving these recorded oral histories in the Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections at Ohio University.

Dr. Choi is an associate professor of Politics and Government and an affiliated professor of International Studies at Ohio Wesleyan University. For the 2025 Lazaroff Memorial Lecture in Jewish History, Dr. Maya Soifer Irish, Associate Professor of History at Rice University, presented her research titled "Toward a Definition of Medieval Antisemitism." She also spoke with graduate students and faculty at a lunch conversation earlier.

History MA alum Dr. Carleton Young visited Athens this week presenting at the Charles H. Grosvenor Civil War Roundtable. He shared insights from his book Voices in the Attic: The Williamstown Boys in the Civil War. Dr. Young taught history at Thomas Jefferson High School in Pittsburgh for 37 years.
