Open Road Tolling at Eastgate Begins on Nov. 20, 2024 The newest open road tolling plaza on the Ohio Turnpike is coming to Eastgate – the first toll plaza heading west from Pennsylvania. Soon, driving westbound through Eastgate will change. If you have an?E-ZPass, stay to the left and keep on driving. Everyone else: Stay to the right and stop and pay your toll to avoid additional fees. Remember … Pennsylvania has Toll By Plate, which means no stopping. The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission offers its sincere condolences to the family of Jo Ann Davidson – a trailblazer in Ohio and national politics – who died on Oct. 25, 2024, at the age of 97. Ms. Davidson was appointed to the Ohio Turnpike Commission in August 1978. She was the first woman to serve as a Commission Member and became vice chair of the Commission in July 1979. She resigned from the Commission following her election to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1980. “[T]he Commission recognizes and expresses its appreciation of the diligent, active and valuable service rendered by Jo Ann Davidson as a member and vice chair of the Ohio Turnpike Commission,” the Commission wrote in a Resolution on Dec. 17, 1980. “[T]he Commission extends to Jo Ann Davidson its congratulations and its best wishes for her success and well-being as a legislator and in all matters and engagements which she shall undertake in the future.” Ms. Davidson, who served in the Ohio House for Representatives for more than two decades and held numerous leadership roles, was elected House Speaker in 1995. She was the first woman to hold this position in the Ohio General Assembly as well as any state house of representatives in America. She served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee from 2005 to 2009. In 2000, she founded the Jo Ann Davidson Leadership Institute to recruit and train Republican women to run for elective office. Ms. Davidson became chair of the Franklin County Republican Party in 1973. She was elected to Reynoldsburg City Council in 1967.
