?? Re-Pointing in Progress ??? Work continues at The Arts Castle in Delaware, where an important upgrade is in progress. A “re-pointing” project is underway thanks to a $100K cultural facilities grant we administered. For those unfamiliar, re-pointing is the process of replacing the old mortar between bricks with new mortar, improving the stability of the structure. The Arts Castle plays an important role in Delaware County by offering artistic experiences like workshops, exhibits, and special events. Learn more by visiting ArtsCastle.org. During Safe Schools Week, we proudly spotlight the Multi-Agency Radio Communication System (MARCS)-in-Schools program. In July, the Ohio Controlling Board approved a $1.2 million investment in technology to support critical communications during emergencies. ? ? This program is a partnership between our agency and the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS). The OFCC and DAS will purchase the equipment, which will be installed and programmed by the DAS MARCS team.? ? School districts in 20 counties were eligible to apply for a MARCS-in-Schools grant for the equipment, and we are proud to share that 43 school districts were awarded the technology, enhancing emergency communication capabilities across 167 school buildings.?

We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Curtis "Curt" Moody, founder of the Moody Nolan architecture firm in Columbus. Moody, 73, passed on Sunday.? ?? Moody founded his firm in 1982 and grew it into the largest African American architectural firm in the nation with engineering partner Howard Nolan. In 2021, Moody Nolan became the first African American firm – and the first Ohio-based firm – to receive the AIA Architecture Award, which is the highest honor bestowed by The American Institute of Architects (AIA).? ?? https://lnkd.in/edcwvR_D?

It’s a bittersweet day for our team as we bid a fond farewell to Program Manager LANE BEOUGHER, who is leaving to take a position at the Ohio Department of Commerce. Today is his last full day with us after nearly 19 years. Lane boasts more than 40 years of experience in facilities planning, architectural design, specifications preparation, and construction administration. His state service began in 2005 with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services and included a stint as the State Architect from February 2011 to September 2012 before the office merged with the Ohio School Facilities Construction Commission to create the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. A graduate of The Ohio State University with a Master of Public Administration from Capella University, Lane has been honored with the distinction of Fellow of both The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). His latest honor comes from CSI, who will award him the honor of Distinguished Member at the organization’s upcoming National Conference from Oct. 16-18. Thank you to Planning Manager Joey DiOrio for representing both our agency and the state of Ohio at the National Council on School Facilities’ Annual Meeting this week in Washington, D.C. DiOrio gave a “State of the State of Ohio” presentation and participated in a panel discussing K-12 school planning and maintaining facilities post-construction. He also took part in multiple breakout sessions where he was able to network with representatives from other states about their programs that support schools. Thank you, Joey!

Today is a beautiful fall day in Ohio, and it's only fitting that this is also National Walk to a Park Day. Our friends at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year and boast dozens of wonderful parks across the entire state that would be perfect to visit on a day like this – or any day for that matter! Exciting news from Jefferson County! Indian Creek Local School District Superintendent T.C. Chappelear shared plans for the new community innovation center in collaboration with the Mingo Junction Village Council. Indian Creek was one of 11 districts in Ohio to receive funding from the state’s Appalachian Community Innovation Centers grant program. The district was awarded just north of $6.5 million to build a new state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a center for public education, community health services, and workforce development. Congratulations to a five-person crew from The Keller Group Limited for winning the BX Craftsmanship Award, one of the highest honors for tradespeople in the commercial construction industry. They received the accolade for their exceptional work on the Deer Creek State Park Lodge in Mt. Sterling. The Deer Creek State Park Lodge renovation project transformed the lodge’s grand entrance. With a beautiful, sloped cedar shake roof, an elegant walkway, and a captivating water feature, the space now showcases intricately crafted deer statues, and a serene touch enhanced by native landscaping, creating a harmonious natural environment.? The addition of a spacious patio and cozy fire pit creates the perfect gathering spot for visitors to enjoy the picturesque surroundings. This design enhances both functionality and aesthetic appeal, making it an inviting space for relaxation and connection. The craftsmen honored were Jose Calderon, Jair Gonzalez, Jonathan Gonzalez, Juan Gonzalez, and Jose Lazo.
