PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:?We have recently been made aware that pet owners are receiving scam calls regarding their lost pets. The scammer pretends to be a law enforcement agency and informs the owner that their pet has been found and taken to a shelter with a minor injury. They provide a police report number, explain that the shelter will be in contact and then follow up pretending to be the shelter stating that the pet is there and money must be paid over the phone to provide the necessary care and surgery of the lost pet. Please, do not pay over the phone, call the shelter directly to see if this is true.

A new poll shows that Ohio voters overwhelmingly agree: housing affordability is a serious issue, and it's time for elected leaders to take action. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s Opportunity Starts at Home campaign, 82% of voters believe the government must play a key role in making housing more affordable. Additionally, the majority of voters oppose policies that criminalize homelessness, recognizing that this only worsens the problem. Ohioans are calling for long-term solutions, including stronger renter protections and increased investments in affordable housing. Read more at https://lnkd.in/g-ACHZZG

Big win for Ohio! In a unanimous decision, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled today that R.C. 959.131(C) protects all dogs and cats. In a nutshell, the Court concluded that "'Any' means all, and R.C. 959.131 defines 'companion animal' as including 'any' dog or cat." The dog or cat does NOT need to be "kept" as argued in this case. OAA, along with ALDF, AWI, HSUS and Cleveland State's Animal Law Clinic, submitted amicus briefs to the Ohio Supreme Court to support the position of the Cuyahoga County Prosecutors in fighting for Ohio's companion animals. Tackle Pet Hunger is a campaign conducted by Ohio Animal Foundation to raise awareness about pet hunger in our community and collect donations of cat and dog food to keep pets in their homes and out of the shelter. In the past 10 years, the Ohio Animal Foundation has distributed over 44,000 pounds of pet food through Tackle Pet Hunger. The 2024 community campaign will run October 1-31.
