This week’s Student Showcase is on Case Western Reserve University’s Robotics Club, CWRUBotix. CWRUBotix is a versatile Robotics club that welcomes all students regardless of major, working to create strong, interdisciplinary teams for their various projects. Student majors in this club range from Computer Science to pre-med, and in effort to include everyone, they run annual Robotics Camps where they provide programming and robotics training for those who have little to no experience with the subject. The club is comprised of three different projects: a brand-new Combat team that is working on creating a BattleBot, the “Micro-mouse” maze solving robot, and an underwater drone that travels to annual national competitions. The Underwater Drone team, which President Noah Mollerstuen has contributed plenty to, focuses on designing a robot that can be submersed underwater and complete a variety of tasks. This team continuously improves on previous years models, all of which are built from scratch, and are currently working towards the advancements in waterproof electronics and ethernet cameras for their most recent robot: Scuba Tooba Tuba, Electric Beluga. Advancement is an important goal of this team, as they aim to jump from the 5th place they achieved at the 2023 Kingsport Tennessee Competition to top three this upcoming year. Outside of competition, CRWUBotix is an active member of their community. The club has attended Girl Scout Meetings to teach young girls about robotics, providing them with useful information and hands-on experience with building robots, which subsequently earned them a badge. The CWRUbotix Robotics Club provides valuable experience and resources at Case Western Reserve University, helping give any student interested in robots hands-on experience with the subject. Teams like this help show that anyone, regardless of experience and technical capabilities, can delve into robotics and leave a lasting impact. The OSGC is a proud supporter of student initiatives like the CWRUBotix club, check out the resources we provide for STEM students by visiting our website https://osgc.org !
