A Family (Finally) Gives Their Eichler Home a Top-to-Bottom Reboot Twelve years after moving in, a Palo Alto couple adds space, functionality, and vibrance to their beloved midcentury. This remodel of a classic Eichler home in Palo Alto was commissioned by a lively family of five, including three daughters and two dogs, who had long dreamed of updating their home to better suit their active lifestyle. After years of casually discussing a remodel, the decision to move forward came suddenly—during a family vacation, the eldest daughter wistfully commented that she might be off to college before any renovations happened. Inspired by this moment, the mother called Ogawa Fisher Architects from her hotel room, eager to start the project as soon as they returned. We are thrilled to see this midcentury modern gem designed by Hiromi Ogawa, AIA CPHD, and Lynn Fisher featured in?Dwell Magazine. Thank you to Laura Mauk for the wonderful article! Hiromi and Anna, as part of the @aia_sanmateo Committee on the Environment (COTE), have been working hard for the last year to help organize this important event. The event is called ZNCD+Talks and will be held this Saturday 9/28 at the Burlingame Community Center. The day features five sessions led by passionate professionals well-versed in ZNCD and everyday sustainability practices. Session topics range from conceptual project planning, understanding of the latest codes, design methods and tools, to specification of building products and technology for Zero Net Carbon projects. All sessions qualify for AIA HSW and CAB ZNCD MCE training requirements.? ?? Hiromi will be the moderator for a session called, ‘Getting Everyone On Board: What Passive House projects can teach us about ZNCD goals.’ There are still a few spaces left! This past spring, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Minor in Sustainable Environments. I am beyond grateful for the learning experiences, opportunities, and friendships I have formed over the last five years! The knowledge and skills I have gained will guide me as I take on new challenges, and I’m excited to carry these lessons into my future career. In addition, I’m delighted to share that I have received a 2023-24 Honorable Mention for the thesis 'Culinary Narratives: Making, Feeding, Eating, and Other Ways of Being Intimate.' The thesis explores the provision of a design voice to the complexity of ethnic being, producing a collection of intimate spatial moments. A special thanks to my professor, Brian Osborn for his unwavering support and words of encouragement throughout the thesis journey. As a new chapter begins, I am pleased to share that I will be joining Ogawa Fisher Architects as a Junior Designer this fall. I would like to thank Hiromi Ogawa, AIA CPHD, and Lynn Fisher for this wonderful opportunity, and I’m thrilled to begin my career with such a talented team!
