Hours before Hurricane Helene made landfall, #NIWCAtlantic engineers wrapped up a highly successful Hybrid Fleet Campaign 2024 (HFC24) event down in Key West! Read all about it, see additional photos here: https://lnkd.in/gZZZ4yxv Sponsored by U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, the weeklong at-sea experiment took place in Key West Harbor both ashore and aboard the expeditionary fast transport USNS Burlington (T-EPF-10). During HFC24, NIWC Atlantic assessed how emerging communications capabilities could integrate with unmanned air/surface/underwater systems in a future hybrid fleet. Near the end of the event, Vice Adm. Alvin Holsey, @United States Southern Command military deputy commander, visited the USNS Burlington on Sept. 25 to engage with technology owners from government and industry who had spent a week experimenting. Today, more than 200 warrior-scholars will cross the stage in King Hall auditorium in celebration of their graduation from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). Among the school’s Summer Quarter graduates is U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Adam Johnson, a Supply Corps officer and Department of Defense Management (DDM) graduate, who focused his research on entrepreneurship within the Navy. Johnson and his peers focused their thesis research on fostering entrepreneurship as a subcomponent of innovation to help junior officers generate ideas and give better feedback to their leaders. As a co-founder of the Naval Junior Officer Counsel (NJOC), the Navy's first management advisory group officially endorsed by the Chief of Naval Personnel and Chief of Naval Research, Johnson’s research delivers well-informed recommendations to leadership on accelerating innovation. “I was specifically focused on barriers and incentives to drive that behavior within the Navy,” said Johnson. “We hope that our research will lead to more robust ways to drive behaviors already promulgated from Navy leadership to help drive feedback and better innovative solutions to current Navy challenges.” Johnson, who will focus on aviation supply chain management in his next job at Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support, Philadelphia, expressed appreciation to both NPS and DDM for preparing him to excel. “It's hard to put into words how impactful the experience here at NPS has been,” said Johnson. “I should have known more about it before I got here; I'm happy to know more now, and I can't wait to tell everybody about how great NPS is.” Tune in today, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. Pacific (1 p.m. Eastern) at https://nps.edu/WatchLive to watch Johnson and his fellow Summer Quarter graduates celebrate the completion of their NPS studies. ?
