At last week's "Building The Future: DC's Economic Landscape" event, hosted by Mayor Bowser and DMPED, we discussed where we're going as a city. Read more in Technical.ly's write-up below ?? "Tech is a key part of the District’s economy, largely encompassing cybersecurity and government-related IT, said Deputy Mayor Nina Albert. DC’s strengths lie in the 'feds, eds and meds,' but there’s room to diversify the industry. 'There is a direct connection between what the federal government procures and the ecosystem or industry that’s emerging,' Albert told Technical.ly. 'And we’re just wanting to lean into that more, so that we can really harness that natural work and make sure that it extends to other types of technologies.' https://lnkd.in/eGV7QhxE
With fewer federal employees working downtown, DC explores new ways to boost the local economy?

Yesterday, Mayor Bowser and DMPED hosted an event on the future of DC’s sustained economy, centering on strategic priorities for attracting high-growth industries, revitalizing Downtown DC’s commercial sector, and addressing the evolution of the federal city. Our thanks to Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy for hosting us in their beautiful new building, and to the Washington DC Economic Partnership, Federal City Council, and Gensler for making the event a reality. Our thanks to the presenters, panelists, and thought leaders who dedicated their time, energy, and expertise. And our thanks to all the attendees for taking time out of your days to come together for what we hope was a thoughtful and impactful discussion. ? The exciting opportunities for a vibrant economic future are within reach. But we have to work together to get there. As Mayor Bowser said: we are the best city in the world. We are a resilient city. Our finances are strong and our economic fundamentals are strong. But we need you to keep the ideas coming and to think big, because DC is ready to be your partner. Since becoming Deputy Mayor, Nina Albert has continually sought CNHED members’ perspectives on addressing all the current housing and business challenges the District faces in this post-pandemic era. We are incredibly grateful for her partnership and thrilled that she joined our Silver Jubilee Gala to provide welcoming remarks. We look forward to the work ahead with both the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development and DM Abert as we continue to grow our focus around #EconomicMobility.
