This week, DMPED and DHCD celebrated the grand opening of Dix Street Residences, a 48 unit affordable housing development focused on providing housing solutions to multi-generational families. We have an obligation to ensure DC remains affordable to residents of all ages and income levels, especially our seniors. We want to ensure DC is where our residents can thrive, age in place, and affordable housing is a key part of that. Under Mayor Bowser’s leadership, the District invests more per capita into affordable housing than any other jurisdiction in the nation. And for this project, we invested nearly $15.5 million from the Housing Production Trust Fund.

What a great way to kick off Women’s History Month! Mayor Bowser and Samantha Abrams, owner of Sapodilla’s Caribbean Restaurant, sat down for a conversation about public-private partnership and creating opportunity in Ward 8. This was a part of Mayor Bowser’s Small Business Tour in Historic Anacostia, where she visited three Black-owned businesses that received support from DMPED’s Food Access Fund and Neighborhood Prosperity Fund: Sweet Tooth Café and Cakes, Sapodilla’s, and Grounded. As we look forward to empowering local businesses’ owners while strengthening underinvested commercial corridors, we are preparing to launch the next round of DMPED’s Great Streets, Locally Made, Commercial Property Acquisition Fund, and a new program Emerging Retail Initiative Fund. All four grants open will open on Friday, March 14 and close on April 14. To learn more, you can visit dmped.dc.gov
