The Press Office in the OAG’s Executive Division is seeking an experienced and talented Speechwriter to join the Attorney General’s communications team. The Speechwriter will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with OAG bureau chiefs, press officers, and senior staff to synthesize detailed information on the work of the office into clear, effective, and compelling speeches, op-eds, scripts, and talking points that are geared to a variety of audiences. Speeches are edited in close collaboration with the Attorney General, and the Speechwriter also works closely with other communications staff to plan and execute speaking events that advance the Attorney General’s broader communications/messaging strategy. As head of the Department of Law, the Attorney General is both the “People's Lawyer” and the State's chief legal officer. As the “People's Lawyer,” the Attorney General serves as the guardian of the legal rights of the citizens of New York, its organizations and its natural resources. In fulfilling the duties of the State’s chief legal counsel, the Attorney General not only advises the Executive branch of State government, but also defends actions and proceedings on behalf of the State. The Attorney General serves all New Yorkers in numerous matters affecting their daily lives.The Attorney General's Office is charged with the statutory and common law powers to protect consumers and investors, charitable donors, the public health and environment, civil rights, and the rights of wage-earners and businesses across the State. The Attorney General's authority also includes the activities and investigations of the State Organized Crime Task Force and Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. While the Attorney General acts independently of the Governor, the Governor or a state agency may request the Attorney General to undertake specific criminal investigations and prosecutions. The legal functions of the Department of Law are divided primarily into five major divisions: Appeals and Opinions, State Counsel, Criminal Justice, Economic Justice and Social Justice. Over 1,800 employees, including over 700 attorneys, as well as forensic accountants, legal assistants, scientists, investigators, and support staff, serve in the Office of the Attorney General in many locations across New York State.

OAG is seeking a dynamic litigator and experienced manager to lead the Utica Regional Office (RO) as the Assistant Attorney General-In-Charge (AAGIC). The AAGIC will report to the Chief Deputy Attorney General for Regional Offices and supervise approximately seven (7) attorneys along with the RO’s support staff. The AAGIC will manage the RO’s defensive and affirmative dockets and daily operations with an emphasis on the direct supervision of the region’s defensive practice, comprised of hundreds of cases in Federal Court, State Supreme Court, and the Court of Claims. Other responsibilities include maintaining an active caseload; reviewing and assigning incoming litigation matters; addressing personnel issues; assisting with recruitment matters; liaising with other OAG bureaus/regional offices, state agencies, and external stakeholders. The Claims Bureau represents the state of New York and its agencies in the Court of Claims and its employees in State Supreme Court. OAG’s Labor Bureau is seeking an attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the NYC office. The Labor Bureau has been nationally recognized for aggressively enforcing labor standards, especially in low-wage industries where exploitation of workers is common. Besides the AAG’s own affirmative investigations, the Labor Bureau also represents NYS agencies in their enforcement of labor laws, defensive litigation in state and federal court that often raises similar substantive issues in a different procedural setting. The AAG will manage their own investigations and cases, including formulating strategies, developing investigations, and handling litigation. OAG’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) seeks attorneys with experience prosecuting and/or investigating complex financial wrongdoing to serve as Special Assistant Attorneys General in its NYC office. Attorneys lead collaborative, team-based investigations with the MFCU's forensic accountants/auditors, detectives, and analysts to identify and prosecute financial fraud in the healthcare industry and abuse and neglect of residents in healthcare facilities, present evidence to grand juries, and conduct evidentiary hearings and trials in New York State courts. OAG’s Environmental Protection Bureau hosts New York University (NYU) School of Law State Energy & Environmental Impact Center Fellows. The Fellows serve as Special Assistant Attorneys General (Special Assistants) in the bureau in New York City or Albany. The Special Assistants provide OAG with additional litigation resources on clean energy, climate change, and other environmental and public health matters. As Special Assistants, the fellows are supervised by OAG and owe a duty of loyalty to the state of New York as their client. The NYU Law Fellows serve for a one-year term as Special Assistants, with the potential for a one-year extension. The NYU School of Law will pay the salary of the Fellows and provide employee benefits. Applicants must have at least five (5) years of complex civil litigation practice. The SC is responsible for managing and supervising a group of Attorneys and Legal Assistants located in NYC and Albany and providing training, guidance, and assistance to attorneys who handle trusts and estates matters in OAG regional offices. The SC also supervises a staff attorney responsible for representing the New York Comptroller in proceedings seeking withdrawal from the Abandoned Property Fund.
