The Office of Student Pathways visited Principal Jaivelle A. Reed and the Chelsea CTE High School community. Chief of Student Pathways Melanie Mac and LaGuardia Community College President Kenneth Adams saw students fully engaged in three dynamic Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs: CISCO Networking, Computer Systems & Telecommunications, and Graphic Design. Keeping with the Future Ready NYC mission, students spoke of the excellence they receive in advising, career-connected learning and opportunities for early college credits as early as 10th grade.

?? Celebrating 40 Years of Success via Apprenticeship (SVA)!?? This week marks a significant milestone — the 40th anniversary of the Success via Apprenticeship (SVA) program, a transformative initiative that has prepared over 300 candidates to become outstanding Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers across various industries. The SVA program offers a unique and impactful pathway to becoming a CTE teacher. It’s not just about earning a certification — it's a life-changing experience that shapes you as both a professional and a person. Here's what makes it so special: ?? Tailored College Courses You’ll follow a personalized college schedule, carefully crafted to meet the specific requirements for teacher certification while setting you up for success as a CTE teacher. ?? Classroom Experience Gain invaluable hands-on experience over two years, teaching in schools across the five boroughs. From creating lesson plans to classroom management, this real-world experience equips you with the skills to thrive in the classroom. ?? Industry Apprenticeship As a full-time apprentice, you’ll work alongside experienced industry professionals for three years. Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and equipment — knowledge that directly enhances your classroom instruction. I want to congratulate all the SVA apprentices and graduates who are now making a difference as successful CTE teachers. Your dedication and hard work continue to inspire. Last Thursday marked the first FRNYC & CRMYA Community of Practice session of the school year! A fantastic opportunity for educators to come together to prepare, collaborate, learn, and share ideas that will shape the year ahead. With learning pods that group schools facing similar challenges, these conversations make achieving our collective goals more achievable. The discussions offered solutions to current challenges, valuable advice from peers, and thought-provoking questions that sparked, amazing ideas. A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible especially our opening session speakers, Melanie Mac, Harini Venkatesh, and Moses Ojeda, who kicked things off with inspiring insights. And of course, let's not forget our amazing facilitators: Jeffrey Chetirko, Ed.D. , Michael Rothman, EdD, Raisa Belyavina Schwanbeck, Ph.D. , Desmond Jardine, and Mike Glenwick. Your support and guidance are appreciated ! ?? Looking forward to all the continued learning and collaboration this year! ?? #CommunityOfPractice #EducationCollaboration #SchoolLeadership #FRNYC #CRMYA #ProfessionalDevelopment #OfficeOfStudentPathways #NYCPS

Excited to share that NYC Department of Education recently launched a Healthcare Curriculum Development RFP to oversee groundbreaking, equitable, and integrated curriculum for #NorthwellSchoolofHealthSciences, a new healthcare high school built in deep partnership with Northwell Health. We're looking for a partner to oversee the curriculum development for this school across multiple strands: 1. Development or Adaptation of Pathway-Specific Curriculum 2. Refreshing and Improving Existing Healthcare Core Curriculum 3. Ensuring Curriculum is Relevant, Integrated, Interactive, and Accessible The selected partner will be responsible for ensuring that each of these strands work in concert to bring the curriculum to life in the classroom. Partnership is key to the success of this school, and the organization selected will also be responsible for coordinating closely with Northwell Health, with other relevant external partners, and with the NYC Public Schools team including schools, teachers, families, and students. The deadline to apply is November 4th. Message me for the full RFP or with any questions and please tag or share this with any organizations you think might be a good fit!

The event was filled with vibrant music from the All City Afro Latino Ensemble and NYPD band La Jara, delicious food, and stunning art. The highlight?
