I had the opportunity to connect with ODYSSEY SERVICES CORP. in Flagstaff with Brandy Price, an employment professional that is participating in U of A Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities in partnership with Arizona Vocational Rehabilitation’s customized employment pilot project. I began my day alongside @Brandy Price from ODYSSEY SERVICES CORP. meeting at the corner of Winslow, Arizona. Our day then took us to the Hopi Reservation, where we had the privilege of connecting with @Peace Academic Center. We engaged in heartfelt discussions about the pressing needs of students with disabilities and the importance of creating meaningful employment opportunities for them within their communities. But they cannot find Employment Providers who will come to them. During our visit, we met with the Director of Special Education at Hopi Junior/Senior High School to share insights on transition planning—an essential step in ensuring that students are equipped for successful futures. Engaging with tribal communities is always a profound experience for me; their perspectives are invaluable. The stories they share are not just narratives; they are reflections of resilience, culture, and the rich heritage that shapes their lives. I want to extend my gratitude to the Hopi elections office for graciously providing us with their office space for our meetings. It’s acts of kindness like these that strengthen our connections and foster collaboration. A special thank you goes to Esther, whose dedication and passion made today’s efforts possible.
