Thank you Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign for the opportunity to share some of the learnings from last summer spending time in India shadowing ostomy clinics and hospitals as part of Dr Manu Prakash lab at Stanford University. For those interested, below is the recording of the session explaining the project Odapt and the recent work done in India, reflecting on the importance of designing for health equity and for accessible medical devices. Mario Garcia Causapié, Benjamin Foster, Vaibhav Sharma, Abhigyan Ray
Missed our last health equity discussion on innovation and allyship? In this session, Policy Fellow Charlene Kuo and Innovation Fellow Ivana Llobet Leca shared their experiences learning and working with care communities in India and the United States. Using the example of a product she helped develop for ostomy care, Ivana gave an insightful overview of what she learned about frugal innovation and the importance of designing with the community to develop high quality, affordable solutions that address the need in that specific context. Charlene shared the tools she used in the process of co-designing policies for direct care workers to improve their work conditions and benefits. She explained why work conditions are determinants of health, the historical patterns that have resulted in the overrepresentation of certain groups in the direct care workforce, and some upstream strategies that could improve community conditions. ??Watch the recording in our YouTube playlist: https://lnkd.in/e_f-4GGm CC: Bay Area Global Health Alliance, Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health
