Check out our mention in the newest edition of the Encyclopedia of Electrochemical Power Sources! Octet is advancing Zinc-Silver batteries with our novel electrolyte additive technology. ?? ? ?? "Next generation additives are looking at the molecular level for improvements in minimizing dendrite formation, hydrogen gassing and low polarization voltage. Octet Scientific has developed a class of low cost, organic molecules added to low concentration KOH (6–8 M) which had dramatic improvements over the current state of the art. Thus far their results reported close to twice the wet life over conventional batteries and a significant improvement in hydrogen evolution in the zinc battery market." Karpinski, A. P.?(2025).?Batteries – Battery Types – Zinc Batteries | Zinc–Silver. Encyclopedia of Electrochemical Power Sources (Second Edition),?825-839. https://lnkd.in/ggdfRJUP

Lithium-ion batteries were initially developed to power consumer electronics, but they truly scaled with the rise of electric vehicles. A recent New York Times article highlights how China dominates lithium-ion production today, owning the supply chains that fuel much of the global automotive market. However, as we look ahead to the next energy frontier—grid-scale energy storage— we have to ask - Will the U.S. seize the opportunity to lead this time? Just as lithium-ion transformed transportation, new battery technologies will be crucial to stabilizing renewable energy sources like wind and solar. The shift from lithium-ion to alternative storage solutions—such as aqueous battery technologies—is underway, and this growth mirrors the exponential rise we saw in EVs. The U.S. has a real chance to dominate the energy storage market by advancing these emerging technologies. Octet Scientific, Inc. is proud to support this transition, providing crucial components that make aqueous batteries higher performing, and even more cost-effective. The question is no longer if we need new battery technologies—it’s how quickly we can develop and deploy them. With the right investment and innovation, the U.S. can build the energy storage equivalent of the EV revolution.
