Let’s talk about Texas. Solar installations have surged in the Lone Star state!?Texas installed more solar in the first half of 2024 than any other state and is expected to install more battery capacity than any other state in the next 12 months. This is great news! And, according to SEIA’s latest polling, it’s also winning over a lot of voters in Texas. 3 in 4 Texans now agree that solar is good for the state’s economy AND a similar percentage say that solar and storage are making the grid more resilient. As of today, solar is now the most popular energy source among Texans, beating out wind and natural gas. Voters in Texas are choosing solar and storage…but they’re doing so?in a very Texas kind of way. The last thing they want is state policymakers getting in the way of progress. 89% of voters believe farmers and property owners should have the right to lease their land to solar projects. 80% want to maintain a level playing field between solar and oil and gas. The bottom line is that Texas voters don’t want their policymakers choosing favorites. Texas has a rich history as an energy leader and voters want to see that continue with newer sources. They don’t want unnecessary hurdles to solar or red tape that slows down reliable, low-cost energy reaching their homes. They want to see honest competition.
