Happy Thanksgiving! We have much to be thankful for at OceanView. We are forever grateful to our dedicated staff who work hard to provide for our community. In October, we held our annual Employee Recognition Luncheon. We honored our employees who reached 5-year milestones in our company. Overall, we celebrated a combined 85 years of service to OceanView, including Gloria Walker who marked 20 years in our Sales and Marketing Department. We are proud of the longevity of our staff. Thank you for all of your hard work! And this month, our team celebrated the holiday with our third annual Friendsgiving, which includes a food contest. Shireen Shahawy’s chicken cobbler won Best Entrée, and Talya Corsetti’s stromboli won Best Side Dish. And lastly, we celebrated Kitty Carpenter in October. Happy Retirement, Kitty! Happy #EarthDay! ?? It was a rough start to spring, but that didn't slow down our gardens. In the past few weeks, our campus has exploded in crocuses and daffodils. Hyacinths and azalea bushes have just bloomed, and tulips will pop any day now. Enjoy these photos from around our 80-acre campus! As part of OceanView's Commitment to Sustainability, we are continuously working to decrease our carbon footprint to help the environment and fight climate change. In recent years, we have hired a full-time sustainability coordinator to join our team, installed hundreds of solar panels to our apartment buildings and cottages, and we have planted a wildflower meadow to help the bees (which we've expanded for this year), in addition to other efforts on and off campus. Looking for a way to warm up on this cool rainy day? Try a bowl of West African Peanut Soup! Earlier this month, OceanView kicked off spring with the Annual Soup Challenge, a contest where six chefs on our dining services team competed for bragging rights of who can make the best soup. We have such a talented team of chefs. The challenge is fun for the residents and staff, and it's also a way to encourage creativity in the new recipes we create for our community. This year's challenge had an international theme, and the six soups were West African Peanut, Zuppa Toscana, Canadian Split Pea, French Onion, Spanish Soupa de Ajo, and Mexican Chicken Verde. This year's 1st place winner was the West African Peanut Soup by OceanView's Chef de Cuisine Keegan. Chef Nicole won 2nd place with her Zuppa Toscana, and Chef Maryann won 3rd place with her French Onion Soup. Congratulations to our winners! We have such a talented team of chefs.
