We were thrilled to have Michael King present at the West Coast Sea Turtle Symposium, where he shared his talk, "From Classroom to Coastline: Inspiring Future Leaders in Sea Turtle Conservation and Reclaiming Rad for the Next Generation." His message was all about turning knowledge into action and inspiring youth to embrace a "rad" mindset. Drawing from the rebellious spirit of 70s skateboarding culture and the bold energy of civil rights movements, Michael explained how "rad"—originally meaning “cool”—reflects courage, creativity, and the drive to challenge the status quo in pursuit of meaningful change. It’s about encouraging young people to take action for the environment with the same fearless creativity that defined past social movements. By reclaiming "rad," we’re empowering the next generation of ocean stewards to be bold, think critically, and act boldly for the planet.
关于我们
The Ocean Connectors mission is to educate, inspire, and connect youth in underserved Pacific coastal communities through the study of migratory marine life. Our vision is to cultivate a future generation of passionate, globally-aware, and empowered coastal residents who take active steps to enjoy and protect ocean health. We accomplish this by providing environmental education programs for students in the U.S. and Mexico as well as public coastal Eco Tours in San Diego, California. Each year we engage thousands of students in marine science, experiential learning, and ocean conservation. We are currently targeting public schools in National City, California, U.S. and Nayarit, Mexico. Migratory marine animals pass through California’s coastal waters en route to nesting, feeding, and breeding grounds in Mexico. We work with a community of nonprofit partners, volunteers, and teachers in both areas to accomplish our goals and engage as many children as possible in diverse, hands-on learning opportunities in coastal environments. Ocean Connectors is a fiscal sponsorship project of The Ocean Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

We are beyond grateful for the hard work, passion, and dedication of our amazing team at Ocean Connectors. ???? Recently, Abigail Norris and Michael King led an unforgettable Wildlife Kayaking Eco Tour in San Diego, guiding participants through the wetlands while sharing their knowledge of our local marine ecosystems. We’re so fortunate to have such a committed team who not only provide exceptional tours, but also inspire others to care for and protect our oceans. ?? A huge thank you to Abby, Michael, and all the incredible individuals at Ocean Connectors who make our mission possible! ?? ?? ??? Last week, we had an amazing time teaming up with the Mission Edge crew for a kayak cleanup! ??♀??? Here’s what Charlotte from Mission Edge had to say: "Wow! We at Mission Edge had SO much fun on our kayak clean up with you all. Your professionalism and knowledge made our experience both enjoyable and impactful. We left with a deeper understanding of our plastic waste pollution problem, fun facts about San Diego’s waterways, and a sense of responsibility to care for our beautiful planet. Thank you for such an unforgettable experience!" We can’t wait for more adventures together! Check out some highlights from our day. ??

Wetlands are vital ecosystems that support diverse wildlife, but they are often burdened by marine plastics and debris. During one of our cleanups, we successfully removed a big tire from the wetlands. By participating in kayak cleanups, we not only clear harmful pollutants but also protect these essential environments. ????

Last week, with our partners at Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center and A Reason To Survive, we began our Nature & Me summer camp program! Up first was Earth Week ?? where campers used clay to shape different things. Check out all of the creative ways they used earth to make a hammerhead shark, pizza, flowers, and more??????. We also learned about important pollinators that help keep our planet healthy ??????
