#Diver #communication is in the digital dark ages. We are excited to announce that Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded us a 2-year, $1.8 million contract to change that! Single-sideband modulation, an analog communication technology introduced to the diving market in the 1980s, is still the de facto standard for through-water voice communication. Digital methods for through-water communication exist, but suffer from extremely low data rates, on the order of 10 characters per second. Our work will bring to market Diver Phone, an underwater mobile device that will offer wireless data-transfer rates suitable for digital voice and video, reliable positioning capability, and a small form factor easily carried by divers. We are honored to be recognized as the leader in #undersea #communication at #BlueTIDE2024. We express our sincere gratitude to the team at 401 Tech Bridge and Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport for bringing together such an esteemed group of evaluators and providing the opportunity to showcase our technology to key stakeholders. Special thanks to our partner Greensea IQ for the flawless deployment of their Bayonet surf zone robot. We integrated our acoustic modem in just two days, then deployed the robot to an op area in Narragansett Bay to crawl the ocean floor and find targets. Our modems wirelessly transported all telemetry as well as the vehicle’s camera feed through the water to the topside operator. More to follow! ??

#BlueTIDE2024 provided the platform for companies to display their technologies and demonstrate their capabilities. With 3 designated operational areas located in Narraganaset Bay, companies completed an in-water mission with a technical focus on #underseacomms, #sensing, #digitaltwin modeling and simulation, and #autonomoussystems. After evaluation, OceanComm, Inc.| BLUEiQ | MAK Technologies | Open Ocean Robotics were recognized for excellence within the misson in their respective technical domains.

OceanComm, which operated out of EnterpriseWorks from 2015 to 2018, enables high-speed wireless connectivity underwater, offering orders of magnitude improvement in data rate.
