Thanks Caleigh Wells at Marketplace by APM for visiting the Las Virgenes Reservoir to see our pod in action with Robert Bergstrom Mark Golay, P.E. and Mike McNutt of Las Virgenes Municipal Water District. As Caleigh outlines in her piece, alternative water sources are highly important in drought-prone regions - both for human consumption and for emergency management. “If we have a local water source, like [OceanWell provides], you could, in fact, have physical water molecules available to combat any emergency.” - Mike McNutt We’re thrilled to be working with Las Virgenes Municipal Water District towards an economical and environmentally friendly alternative water source. Solving water scarcity with sustainable, abundant fresh water from OceanWell's subsea desalination technology
关于我们
OceanWell is a California-based water technology company on a mission to help end the water crisis and adapt to climate change. Our modular deep sea water farm technology harnesses hydrostatic ocean pressure to naturally power the reverse osmosis process and produce fresh water. We do this with vastly improved energy efficiency, without harming marine life, producing a strong brine, or building an onshore plant.

Our pilot with Las Virgenes Municipal Water District to test our fresh water harvesting system was featured in Los Angeles Times ???? Ian James highlights how our deep-sea water farms could offer an economical and environmentally-friendly way of tapping the ocean for fresh water by: ? ? Harnessing natural ocean pressure to drive a high-pressure water purification method called reverse osmosis, reducing energy use by up to 40% ? Avoiding harmful marine intake systems ? Eliminating toxic brine waste, instead returning low-concentration saltwater safely to the deep sea Read the full LA Times article here ?? https://lnkd.in/eZE4jQeY

Last Friday, elected officials, water agencies, and environmental leaders gathered at the Las Virgenes Reservoir in California, to witness an OceanWell pod submerged and producing clean, drinkable water in real-time. With two-thirds of the world’s population projected to face water scarcity by 2050, the demand for resilient and sustainable water solutions has never been greater. OceanWell aims to answer that call. Missed last week’s event? Read up on our pilot with Las Virgenes Municipal Water District here: https://lnkd.in/eWqfGEkD

Today, we launched our pilot with Las Virgenes Municipal Water District to showcase our innovative fresh water harvesting system that aims to bring new, sustainable water sources to regions in need, in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. By 2030, fresh water demand is expected to outpace supply by 40%. Access to abundant clean water is critical to the vitality of our communities, and this partnership with Las Virgenes allows us to take the first step in building a climate-resilient supply in the U.S. and abroad.? A huge thank you to Tina Calderon, David W. Pedersen, Andy Coradeschi, Jay Lewitt, Deven Upadhyay, Michael Camacho, Assemblymember Nick Schultz, Kristine McCaffrey, P.E., Sean Maguire, Sierra Club's Caty Wagner, Senator Ben Allen, and Hiro Kuge, who addressed the urgent need for solutions that provide reliable and accessible sources of water across the globe. What’s next? The next phase of testing – already approved by the California Coastal Commission – is planned to take place in the ocean, transitioning from reservoir conditions to the challenges of the deep sea. This move will further validate OceanWell's technology in its intended environment, bringing us closer to commercial readiness.

Recognizing water's true value is crucial in preventing a future crisis. According to the UN, global water demand is rising by 1% each year, putting both developed and developing regions at increasing risk of water shortages. In partnership with OceanWell, BCG developed the Water Value Framework — a tool designed to help better understand water’s full value, drive smarter decisions, and promote more efficient use and investment. ???Water is one of our most valuable resources, but are we valuing it correctly?? ? Water fuels economies, sustains activities, and drives industries. Yet, outdated pricing models have led to chronic underinvestment – worsening shortages worldwide as demand surges due to climate change, population growth, and industrial expansion. ? That’s why OceanWell partnered with?Boston Consulting Group (BCG)?to explore the crucial question: What is Water Really Worth? ? Our new report breaks down how rethinking water’s value can drive smarter investment and resilience. We introduce a data-driven pricing framework designed to reflect water’s true economic, social, and environmental impact.? ? Read the full report:?https://lnkd.in/gZGwvvar ? #FutureofWater

This year, we’ve reached many milestones, from our?Series A funding round?to our win in the BCG X’s Social Impact Accelerator and our participation in the European Water Tech Accelerator. Our team is constantly pushing for continued growth, and that’s why we’re excited to announce that we have entered?XPRIZE’s Water Scarcity competition. The XPRIZE challenge seeks pioneering solutions for global water shortages - like the drought much of the United States faces - that drive widespread access to clean water. Our decentralized, adaptable desalination model creates that access while ensuring minimal disruption to marine ecosystems.
