The Alaska Sea Grant Alaska Mariculture Conference will be held in Sitka, February 18–20. Registration is still open!. “The goal of the conference is to support the continued development of mariculture in the state by reviewing accomplishments, addressing challenges, and exploring opportunities in research, innovation, education, and industry growth.” In addition to the conference, this event will host the annual meetings for members of the Alaska Mariculture Alliance (AMA) and the Alaska Shellfish Growers Association (ASGA). A symbolic but significant move to recognize the importance of bull kelp to Washington’s culture, commerce and ecology has been introduced in state legislature recently. More than 35 organizations?have supported this legislation including some that we work closely with like:?Puget Sound Restoration Fund, Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, The Nature Conservancy,?Vashon Kelp Forest LLC, and?Washington Sea Grant.
