  • As part of a large Subsea Distribution Unit order for a major operator in the Gulf of America/Gulf of Mexico, Ocean Edge Services just completed delivery of the last two of six Steel Flying Leads (SFLs). “OES uses innovative design and manufacturing processes for our SFLs,” said Justin Ng, OES Operations Manager - Subsea Systems. “In a cross-silo collaborative effort, we identified various areas, particularly at the cobraheads’ attachments, where we could both streamline production efficiency while improving quality with extremely precise tolerances.” Continued Ng, “This is a good example of the team effort in continuous improvement, when OES employees across departments come together and contribute to making our designs and processes better. A long-standing slogan of ours comes from leadership author Ken Blanchard: ‘None of us is as smart as all of us.’” In addition to improvements in design, engineering, and material production, Human Performance Principles and ergonomics were also considered. These changes included modifications in assembly tools and procedures that lessened physical stress on #TeamOES and improved safety. #OceanEdgeServices #oilandgas #subsea #SFL #SteelFlyingLead

  • Ocean Edge Services is in the final assembly stage of a very large Subsea Distribution Unit order. The systems will distribute hydraulics as well as electrical and fiber-optic signals. OES designers utilized 3D CAD modeling to optimize efficiency and minimize scrap for the assembly team, and our welding crew is one of the most talented in the industry. In 2024, they completed more than 10,000 welds with a pass rate of over 97%. “Despite a four-week delay in parts delivery, OES is still completing the project on-time and on-budget,” said OES Project Manager, Rosibel Rodulfo. “I’m proud of the entire team’s collaborative effort to push this major project to an on-time delivery while maintaining OES safety and quality standards.” The units will be shipping out soon. A big “thank you” from management to #TeamOES for their professionalism and ever-present attention to detail. #OceanEdgeServices #oilandgas #subsea #topside #SDU #hydraulic #electrical

  • The OES home team, the Houston Texans, put up a tough fight, but in the end it was the Kansas City Chiefs who triumphed in the NFL AFC divisional playoff game on Saturday, January 18, at a packed Arrowhead Stadium. Most of us watched on television, but three intrepid #TeamOES members—JT Lopez, Reeto Chavez, and Daniel Negrete—flew to Kansas City to cheer on the team from third-row, end-zone seats. If you looked very closely, you could have seen them waving a banner at about eight minutes before the end of the game. KCTV Channel 5 also caught their arrival at the Kansas City International Airport and gave them some on-air time. See the KCTV video here: https://lnkd.in/g9k_httq Houston mayor John Whitmire lost his bet with Kansas City’s mayor Quinton Lucas and will be sending along some Pappas BBQ and Irma’s original Mexican food. How tough did Houston play? In the stats column we beat the Chiefs in total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, and yards-per-play average. In fact, Joe Mixon alone had 76% more yards on the ground than all of Kansas City, and C.J. Stroud threw for 245 yards to Patrick Mahomes’ 177. But we fell short in the most important statistic: the final score. The Chiefs will play the Buffalo Bills for the conference championship, and of course we’ll be cheering for the Chiefs. Because if they were good enough to beat our Texans, we want them to win the Super Bowl! #OceanEdgeServices #HoustonTexans #NFL #playoffs #CommunityInvolvement

  • Last week, we held a kaizen process improvement event at Ocean Edge Services. The term “kaizen” is loosely translated from the Japanese as “change for the good” and is a staple in Lean Thinking. We hold these short-term brainstorming sessions with #TeamOES members who span a wide range of job responsibilities, but we especially want the input of those who work day-to-day with the singular area of focus involved. We have an objective and impartial facilitator guide the activities. Other important criteria are that the event be goal-driven and specific, not trying to address too broad a scope; that the kaizen team is empowered to make changes; that the processes and procedures involved are identified and documented; and that the outcome be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bounded. There is often a reflexive tendency to find solutions to symptoms instead of problems. That isn’t process improvement. Implementing process improvement requires careful, stepwise analysis: ?? To accurately determine where change needs to be made ?? To understand why it’s needed ?? To document what to do to make the change ?? To establish metrics to be able to measure the change “I want to give special thanks to the team members who enthusiastically participate in these events,” said JT Lopez, OES Operations Manager–Manufacturing. “Stepping outside of their day-to-day work activities isn’t always the most comfortable thing to do, but they understand that the outcomes they identify are at the very core of OES’s continuous improvement.” #OceanEdgeServices #ProcessImprovement #BusinessExcellence #Lean #kaizen

The 13th annual Tennis with a Heart charity tournament (https://ahatennis.com/) was held this past weekend. The event was presented by Ocean Edge Services and TechnipFMC, with all proceeds benefiting the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer and Hematology Center and the Houston Chapter of the American Heart Association. The tournament was a smashing success, raising a fraction over $37,000 for the charities. And there was a lot of tennis, good food, and some highly entertaining and informative presentations. The teams were divided into three flights based on skill level per NTRP (the National Tennis Rating Program): 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5/Open.
